A MUST HAVE for Gran Turismo!

Written: Jun 12 '02 (Updated Jun 12 '02)
Pros:Force Feedback, shift paddles, makes GT3 much more fun
Cons:pedals can be unstable, lap attachment useless
The Bottom Line: Enhances Gran Turismo 3 ten folds. It is definitely worth buying if you have a PS2 and GT3.

The Gran Turismo series has always been my favorite. Ask anyone who likes driving games, and they will tell you that Gran Turismo 1, 2, and 3 are the absolute best driving games/simulators bar-none. What could possibly be better? Logitech's Driving Force/GT Force wheel is the answer!

Ever since purchasing Gran Turismo 3 (GT3) for the PS2, I've been wanting the GT Force Wheel. However, the then steep price of $99.00 was too much for me. From what I had heard, it was worth the price, but I'd rather spend that money on two PS2 games instead.

Fast forward to over half a year later when I'd stopped playing GT3. I discover that the GT Force wheel's price had gone down to a mere $69.99. I thought it was about time to search for one on eBay. I ended up paying an eBay price of about $40.

The Wheel is simply amazing. The Force Feedback is the main feature of this wheel. When you corner, the motorized wheel pushes back against your arms, as to simulate a real driving situation. The shift paddles at the back of the wheel simulate real F1 shifter paddles. They also work as advertised: very good.

The pedals are also excellent when using the GT Force Wheel. A sturdier base for the pedals would have been more helpful for me. Sometimes I step on the brake pedal too hard and the whole base moves out of position. Other than that, my only other complaint is the lap attachment. The Wheel is best used firmly attached to a sturdy table. The lap attachment isn't even worth settting up. It puts the steering wheel too close to the user's body, making it very difficult to use.

If you have GT3 and a PS2, buy the wheel now. You don't know what you've been missing. It has made me play GT3 all over again. It's almost like having purchased a brand new game.
