Nice review! (Reply to this comment)

This was a great review...detailed, entertaining and most importantly informative reading!
I was thinking about buying this bag but was a little turned off that it's only water resistant....meaning water will eventually get in if it rains hard enough. After I read the review I am positive I am not getting it. However, Samsonite does make a car top carrier that IS waterproof and slightly larger. I didn't want to spend the extra money. It's about $86 with the shipping included but I figure it's worth my peace of mind. So it's settled...I won't be a cheapo and go for the more expensive one.
Thanks again for the review,
Cassie

We're taking a road trip from South Jersey to Sanibel Island in late August. Two adults, one female teen. We'll be renting a condo and I drive a little Dodge Spirit. I thought that we could just get a portable roof rack and then put all our junk on top & fasten with bungee cords, etc. Then I saw this Samsonite deal on KMart's site, and thought, "Yeah!" Then I read your review and since late August will no doubt bring rainy weather, as it always does, I changed my mind. It's hard to believe that a well-known company such as Samsonite would manufacture a car-top carrier that wasn't waterproof, soft-sided or not. Did the rain get into the car on your previous trip because of the placement of the hooks (ie. left a non-airtight space)? Jeez, I couldn't deal with that again. Went through that on a trip down to the OBX several years ago with a tarp-on-the-rooftop deal. Still remember rain coming into the car going around VA Beach. And I had a nicer car then.
Well, we'll put something together for this trip.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a wonderful comment-as stated -the bag is not perfection-but in a pinch-it works.

Will you come pack me for my next vacation? If you can fit four years of college stuff into it, you can pack anything!
Neat review - thanks.

on your 2 graduations! We are leaving Wednesday for a trip, so this little storage idea may come in handy for us! My husband is insisting on taking his golf clubs, but I didn't see a way everything could fit! Now, I have my answer! Thanks! Suzanne
