The Bottom Line Rent to see if the quality is the same from the arcade to the home consoles!

~~DEFINITION: ARCADE GAME= a game that has made it to the console systems or PC after having been introduced in arcade halls and video arcades in the malls and other such places. Usually with a lot of action, gunnery, fighting, or sports. May have some puzzle elements; but most arcade games are usually filled with action, which creates the draw into the place.~~

~~the following conversation is of course, between our two debaters, Iceman and Evil Ice~~

Evil Ice: I don't see why de heck we gots ta even write 'bout dis, Ice-boy. I mean, it'z oblivious to the most casual chatter dat if dey want a good arcade game, dey can go to de local arcade and check out da good chit.

Iceman: True, Evil, but for the most part, sometimes the home conversion of some arcade games just don't do the game justice; either on the gameplay scale or the graphics. Marvel Superheroes is an excellent example. In the arcade, you can use the teams- switch back and forth, if you will, between the characters that you chose, in order to protect one or use a special power with another. In the home port version of Marvel Superheroes, you couldn't. That really rubbed me the wrong way; not being able to switch heroes like I could in the arcade.

Evil Ice: pshaw, but most games are pretty decently close to the arcade version, ice-dork. If ya like da game in the arcade, it's a pretty safe bet ya gonna like da game at home too! Ah still don't see why I haveta tag along fer dis... I got plans ta cook up and people to rub out... er, people to visit.

Iceman: Yes, that is true... most games ARE very close to their arcade counterparts. Most games are frighteningly similar to the arcade ports, if not for the controls that one uses on a home console- or maybe less graphics and/or level design. But there are some that are actually BETTER than their arcade ports- Tekken 3 for the Playstation and Tekken Tag Tournament for the Playstation 2! Why are these better... ? Because the developers added NEW features that weren't found in the arcade game! AND they kept all the twists and moves and graphical eye candy from the arcade console the same! It doesn't get much better than that!

Evil Ice: Phooey, ice-dorknuts. If someone wants ta get a decent arcade game, just tell 'em ta go to de arcade. Most games in da arcade DO eventually make it home to da home consolios, ya know. If dey find a game dey like at de arcade, jest look fer the title fer the systems. No biggie, ice-numbutt.

Iceman: Sighs... Evil, you're not quite getting it. There are slight differences between most games from arcade to home ports. The wise consumer will at least find the games they like to play in the arcade, and then hopefully rent the game at home- in order to see if the level of quality is the same from the arcade port to the home console. If it isn't then I wouldn't bother getting the game!

Evil Ice: Oh, check it out, ice-weeniebrain. Dere's a Silent Scope over dere, let's play, I'll shoot yer patookus! ~~walks away to the games~~

Iceman: ~~grumbles~~ Well, that does bring up another point... the gun games are fantastic at the arcades... but it's a lot harder to get into the action if you don't have the laser rifle fitted into the home console with a sight... like on Silent Scope. I personally couldn't play a game like that with just a controller... I'd need the gun to really get into the action. But hopefully they are going to create similar pheriphals for the home consoles.

Evil Ice: Hey! Numnuts! I got Time Crisis opened up ovah here! C'mon and let's play, I'm gonna whoop yer heinous patooky!

Iceman: There you have it, folks... simply put, if you play at the arcades, you're more than likely familiar with the games that you will want at home... ! Rent them to see if you want them in your library however, sometimes the home ports just don't match up to the arcade play!

Evil Ice: ~~hollering~~ C'MON ICEKID! Let's play dammit!

Iceman: Geez, keep yer panties on, Evil... I'm coming... see you guys later! ~~waves~~
