My very own 4000 TX AGP

Pros:Fast, Good Game Support, 2000 Loves it!
Cons:XP Support 'iffy' works sometimes, others it chooses not to.
The Bottom Line: Gamers enjoy great quality, for low price. XP users beweare.

I was in the market for a new card, my Linux box needed a nice ol Voodoo3 3000AGP and that meant my Windows box needed a new card. I went to the local CompUSA and this was on sale for $89.95 so I took the plunge. Hurclues has been around since the early days of computing even the graphics chipset on my old 286 was a Hurcules!

So I got home, plugged it in and boom. Love at first site. The video quality was outstanding compared to my old Voodoo3 which had done the job for a 4 years but was aging. This new card gave me a crisp picture and fast refresh rates.

I used the card fine for 5 months. Then some Win2k problems started hapening after a bad software install and everything with south quickly. So the move to XP was a 'fix' a buddy took upon himself to do for me. XP was fine but from day one my graphics were a tad 'sluggish' at best. Game quality went down hill quickly. Now this was reported to be an issue with my motherboard (SD11 Athlon Slot A), but I went as far to try it on my other Windows box which later became my linux box which is a Socket7 Epox EVMPG-3G2 board. No issues under 2k.

So I took the card back to the XP box and tried the latest 'driver upgrade' to no avail. Well with a simple downgrade and a fresh install of 2000, games went back to being awesome!

My advice on this card is as such: 2k or under for best performance! XP drivers are not there yet, but I think in a few more months it may be worth while.

Great card for games, even multi-player stuff ran very smooth no lag. Great starter card for those moving up from old video cards.
