Re: So.... (Reply to this comment)

Hi Jan,
No, it was written by Blake Stevens and Edward C. Ezell, the firearms historian for the Smithsonian Institution in DC. It is a glossy, coffee table sized book with lots of photographs and details the M16 from when it was an idea in Stoner's head until it was adopted by the US Armed Forces. The political climate is examined and the resistance against an "outside" design was solidly bucked by Springfield Armory, the gov't arsenal who had made all the rifles for the military over the previous 200 years. The years and modifications to the basic rifle are covered and much data that appears nowhere else is contained in The Black Rifle.
Thanks for pointing out where I left out some detail!

Nice to see another shooter. Welcome aboard Gatecrasher! I have an SVD Dragunov review, a Colt 45 and a Colt 38 Super review and a S&W snubby review on this site. They are in the category otdr/other.

Nice review. (Reply to this comment)

Good job. Have you read Blake Stevens "The FAL Rifle." It's the Bible to the FAL like this book was to the M-16.

Great Rifle (Reply to this comment)
by LonghornMan
I had the honor of carrying the M-16 and the M-4 while I was in the Middle East for Iraqi Freedom. It's a great rifle, despite a few minor flaws. I'll have to check this book out. Thanks for the great review.
