| jro26's Full Review: Zone Alarm |
I downloaded the free version of ZoneAlarm almost a month ago and so far I am amazed. Completely baffled at what this program does for you. You wouldn’t believe how often someone is trying to get into your computer! It sometimes happens 30 times a day and others none at all. If you are not protected from hackers I suggest visiting ZoneAlarms website and see for yourself what it can do for you.
The process is very easy, just go to their site and get the free download. If you are using this for business purposes it does cost money but really not that much. The download is short and sweet and running and installing is a snap. Truly, this process is well worth what the actual software does for you and your computer.
Once downloaded you will see a little icon with red and green lights that light up showing you that it is running. If someone tries to get into your computer, you have the option of having a pop up window tell you that access has been blocked. You can click on more info and it takes you to their site and you can try to locate whoever it was that tried to gain access. It actually says their name or company and their address-sometimes their email too!
When you first log on to the internet ZoneAlarm will ask specifically if each program you open is allowed access to the internet, you can choose yes and also to allow that program to access every time. You can chose Lock so no programs are allowed access or unlock which enables you to be on the Internet. You can chose to stop all Internet activity also. It keeps a log of the hacks from that day so that you can go back and check it out.
You can choose if just how much security you want, low medium or high for local programs and Internet. You can look at all programs that you are allowing to access the Internet, and just because you are allowing them to access doesn’t mean that you are letting your shield down. You are still in “stealth” mode.
It automatically detects upgrades so you don't have to worry about staying up-to-date. It does it all for you.
If you don’t think that anyone can get into your computer, think again. I have a brand new computer, which I would have thought had its own security but after downloading ZoneAlarm I get alerts almost every hour saying that access was denied to someone. I also have not gotten a virus since I downloaded this so it may help with keeping your email address secretive.
