| KMINER's Full Review: Baby Trend Trendsport Lite Stroller |
Before the birth of our son, Colin, I had my stroller picked out, purchased, and waiting. A huge Osh Kosh denim stroller (not listed on Epinions, and the current years model is a different shade from mine), I was totally ready to stroll around my little newborn. That is, until I actually tried to go anywhere. The Osh Kosh stroller was so big that I could barely get it out of my trunk and get it set up alone. Even when I could, it was hard to navigate through smaller spaces in most mall stores. Once Colin was around 6 months old and able to hold up his head, I knew it was time to find a smaller stroller. After trying a simple umbrella stroller (not ideal), we finally went searching through Toys R Us one day to find a better stroller to meet our needs.
And we found it - Baby Trend Trendsport Lite Stroller. I knew the company, Baby Trend, from a portable crib that we bought and loved. This stroller looked like it met our needs, and we even wheeled it around the store for a while!
Epinions depicts a good picture of it, but I'll still explain it briefly. The whole Baby Trend Trendsport Lite Stroller is mainly black and red, except for the padding which is black and white. From bottom to top it has 4 sets ofsmall red wheels with black tires, which are all plastic and swivel. There is a plastic strap at the child's feet area, in case they wanted a small foot rest. The seat has 2 settings, upright and semi-reclined. It also has a 3 point restraint - a black plastic enclosure that goes from one side to the other, and feeds through a strap with a loop up the middle. In front of the seat is a removable black tray with bumped up sides and a small cup holder. Above the head is a black cloth visor which can be pushed back as needed (Epinions depicts it in the pulled out position). On each side is a handle which is curved much in the fashion of a cane. The handles (shown in the standard position here) actually move to any comfortable angle. Just under each handle is a small black "tooth" that when pressed, allows a person to swivel the handles to 8 different positions, each handle working on its own. The back bottom of this stroller has a very large basket with mesh frame. The stroller also has an easy folding mechanism, found near where the child's head area would be on the base.
This stroller is not listed on Baby Trend's website, but I did find information and an option to order it on amazon.com, where they say this:
"Product Description

trigger-fold mechanism; a child tray with cup holder; adjustable

Mostly Pluses, A Few Minuses
Overall, the Baby Trend Trendsport Lite Stroller is the ideal stroller for us. Let me first mention what we don't like, as it is a shorter list. The wheels at times squeak (though we haven't attempted to WD-40 it, just to keep talking about how we should). At times the wheels seem to "stick" for a second and not go in the direction we'd like them to. Our bigger stroller provided for a smoother ride overall. Also this stroller does not drive well over all terrain, as the wheels are not made from rubber. The padding is not very thick - though Colin has not once complained, a like to see thicker padding to make it more comfortable for him to ride in. The handles are not padded and can bother one's hand after a while. I think the features we don't prefer are in part what make it a light weight stroller to begin with. By not beefing up the tires, handles, and padding, it actually probably makes the stroller lightweight and easy to use!
I like that the straps keep Colin secured but still don't make him feel totally unmoveable. I also feel the 2 positions are adequate. Colin naps just fine in both and the recline does not recline all the way back. I love the lightweight tray, which allows up to allow Colin a snack a drink, or even a small toy. This has been great while eating in the mall food courts, park, etc - we can just place whatever he needs on there and not get him out of the stroller at all! It wipes up easily and is in great shape, except for the name of the company that was painted on the lip of the tray is now about worn off. The basket is huge for such a compact stroller. We are easily able to load up packages and diaper bag in this area. This stroller can be taken into stores without a problem - it is slim enough to fit inbetween aisle at all of our favorite stores! The handle position options is also a nice feature, and we often love them to get a comfortable grip. Since each one moves individually, we can leave one in the regular upright position, and turn the other to the side if wanted. I prefer to have my handles curved out to each side, while my husband leave them in the original position (shown on the Epinions picture) or turns them facing down when his hands get tired. This stroller fold easily and I can do it all by myself - both to fold up and to open up, which is a big plus. I hate having to stop someone in the parking lot and beg for help trying to fold down a stroller and left it into my car!
We have really felt that we have gotten a good use and value out of this purchase. Our Baby Trend Trendsport Lite Stroller has lasted us 1.5 years so far, and is still going strong. I'd suggest if you are in the market for a stroller and can find a store to test this stroller out in person, doing so. The stroller can be purchased online, though I don't usually recommend buying such a major baby purchase without seeing it up close. Baby Trend continues to be a company we look to when purchasing larger baby items. We have been quite impressed!
