A GREAT value

Written: Jun 15 '02 (Updated Jun 15 '02)
Pros:Good suction, Cleans decently, Seems to be built well, LIGHTWEIGHT, solid/quality.
Cons:Doesn't groom carpet deep enough, bag opening, exhaust blows dog hair around.
The Bottom Line: This vacuum is powerful, durable, economical, and gets the job done. Its a GREAT value. (But it doesn't beat my Whirlwind Self-Propelled!)

About a year ago, I was at work and noticed this vacuum on the shelf, on clearance. There were two unopened, clearance, for $12. I had do buy it, no doubts, just because of the price. Why not? I could at least give it to a family member that needed it if I wasn't going to use it. But that wasn't going to happen (you know me...LOL). I got home, and put it together....

The bag was pre-attached, so I fired it up. I was surprised at how quiet this vacuum was! It is very quiet. I took the hose out of the floor nozzle to feel for suction. WOW! The suction that this vacuum produces is very powerful, a lot more than I was expecting! I put the nozzle back in, and started on carpet. I noticed that when I pull this vacuum back and forth, it is very lightweight. It just glides nicely across the floor. No flaws. My carpet had just been vacuumed the day before, so I was basically going over fresh carpet. This vacuum was very easy to maneuver around corners, and the headlight is bright. The vacuum performs well, except, I wish it groomed the carpet a little deeper, but it does it good enough. A lot better than the Oreck that I had used the day before.

I turned the vacuum off to see how the bag worked. I opened the cover, and the bag is fairly easy to replace. You just slide the top cardboard thing out and the whole thing comes out. Simple. However, the only drawback to the bag it the opening. A plastic part from the hose comes down through a hole into the bag container area and just a knub of the hose sticks into the bag, which kind of leaves the inside of the bag chamber a little dustier than with most vacuums. Also, this vacuums brush roll stays on at all times, there is no seperate brush on/off switch.

This vacuum has a clean air system. The attachments include a crevice tool, 2 plastic extension wands, and a combination upolstery tool/dust brush.

If there is one thing that I don't like most about this vacuums, its the exhaust opening. It is right down by the floor, so when you're vacuuming near a dog hair ball, the exhaust blows it under a table or somewhere else. I HATE this because then I have to stop, pull the hose off, and suck it up.

Overall, I am pleased with this purchase. Even if it wasn't just 12 dollars, it is worth it regular price, which I think is $99. I would recommend this vacuum to anyone who wants a powerful, economical vacuum that will get the job done. Another quality Eureka prouduct!
