If you’re from the Midwest, then you may be familiar with McSports. If you’re not, then it’s not Mc (take a breath) Sports like McDonalds, which is what I thought to start with. The M and C actually stand for Michigan Clothiers. When you see the prices, you’ll know that it is not a drive-though kind of place anyway.
The store started out in the 1960s when more people began to have leisure time and money to put into doing sports type stuff. The idea was to provide good quality sporting items for people who had enough money to invest in the things you need to play ball and other activities.
Over the years, McSports bought out some of the sports store competition in the Midwest, but they are still relatively small overall and just in a few states. The jump to online has expanded the area though, so the name should grow as more people see the service online.
If you do have an upper middle class income, then this is a store I would recommend. They have a nice range of products including lacrosse and fishing (which I have found harder to find online). The products are top name, and they are really nice. You can even buy replica jerseys, so if you are having problems find a particular player or if you want your own name on a jersey, then this is a place where you can get just what you want on your shirt (for about $150 per jersey).
McSports is odd on shipping. They give you the price with each item. For example, I looked at a football for Caleb. It was about $12 (which is good) and then close to $5 for shipping. When I added more items, then it averaged out better. So, you see each item on shipping but then may do better on that with more purchases.
It is nice to know up front a baseline shipping cost though these are high (about in the Amazon range for comparison). That is for the standard, and you can upgrade. I don't do that myself, but I guess some people may need balls and stuff the next day.
On the other hand, this is a store where you will pay top dollar. Caleb’s baseball bat was $50 more here at McSports than at the online store where I purchased it. Caleb was using his birthday money, so I went with My Simon and got him a really good price. If you want to learn more about My Simon, then I have a review on the service at:

I have ordered a few items from McSports from the clearance department. Those items were in camping and baseball. Prices were still in the higher range, but they were nice, came on time, and were packed very nicely. I didn’t have to call the company about anything, but they have a 24-hour phone line, which I appreciate. Some of the online companies are almost impossible to get in touch with.
If you want to buy a gift and know that it will be what you expected (and paid for), or if you have more money than time, then I would not hesitate to send you to McSports. They have proven to be a place I can trust when buying online even though I mostly can’t afford them.
For better prices where you still get a good selection, solid quality, and get the items on time and in good shape, then I would rank Dick’s Sporting Goods as my top pick. My review on Dick’s is at http://www.epinions.com/content_54856879748. My next pick would be Fogdog with a review at: http://www.epinions.com/content_46918569604. There are some smaller mom-and-pop type sporting stores that offer even better prices, but I find most of them to be harder to navigate. One small store sent my package to UPS, and I played tag with the delivery guy all week and then had to find the UPS center to get the package.
Though I don’t put McSports on my frequent-buy list due to prices only, they are a really nice place to buy sporting goods. If I had loads of money and just wanted to click in and find everything in one place, then I would go with this sporting shop.
