Best optical mouse on the market.

Written: Jan 21 '01 (Updated Jan 21 '01)
Pros:Perfect size for the average hand. No cleaning... ever. Accurate, inexpensive.
Cons:Red laser light distracting in the dark.
The Bottom Line: Bestbuy on this kind of mouse and some stores are even offering rebates of $5-$10 bucks. For right or left handed people. Just right sizing make this a winner.

When I heard about the new style optical mice that had come out, I read a little about them, and after cleaning the crud out of my old mouse out for what I swore would be the last time, I decided to go to my local Office Depot to check them out.

I knew that Microsoft made one, and Apple made a weird one for their line. I first checked out the Microsoft line and I had to say I was unimpressed. Some of their optical mice looked like some kind of Star Trek phaser(might be fine for some), and they looked to be way too large to hold with any comfort. I did not know that Logitech even had an optical version out when this basic dark blue version caught my eye,(they also make a lighter blue version with a rumble feature), and I found the mouse to be a perfect fit for my hand.

I did not know how the mouse would perform, especially for gaming. I used the optional ps/2 adapter that came with this USB mouse,(I can't justify clogging up a perfectly good USB port with a mouse). The mouse worked great for everything that I use it for on a daily basis, I haven't found any problems whatsoever. I play alot of Sim, RTS, and FPS games, and this mouse, IMO, outperforms regular mice. You know when you are trying to make that precise move in a Sim game or lining up a head shot in a FPS, how a normal mouse can skip because it is dirty. I never have to deal with that again. I use it on the old mousepad, just like the old one, and it is so smooth, you just have to try it for yourself.

The only drawback, if you can call it that, is the red laser light on the bottom see-through portion can light up an otherwise dark room, but hey some might like it for that feature alone.
