Wanted to see if others had the same issue as I did (Reply to this comment)
by mallbuster
I just received an e-mail confirmation within 24 hours of ordering that my item has shipped. Perhaps they are having a good day? I have never ordered anything in bulk before, usually only one item at a time (I like to pick the item up and hold it, view it before I buy it) so I reserve shopping online for items out of stock at my local stores.
Then comes the great news in my e-mail box: (Amazon said) "We thought you'd like to know that we shipped this portion of your order separately to give you quicker service. You won't be charged any extra shipping fees, and the remainder of your order will follow as soon as those items become available."
Today I received a second notification that my second item shipped. And guess what? They charged me shipping. So I came across your review, and I thank you tons, everyone for sharing your concerns as I wondered if anyone else had issues with customer service, of which is my next stop. Thanks again for posting your info!

Never received my item on time or at all !!!! (Reply to this comment)
by michellen2008
A few years back, my friend placed an order for a Cd for a Christmas gift and it never arrived on time with the "fast shipping option" she chose, not did it arrive 2 weeks later, and when emailing them, they kept telling her for me to look in the bushes or around my house. I find this as if they were making excuses for their messup. They finally sent it, after another 2 weeks AFTER the 2 weeks AFTER Christmas. I will NEVER place an order with Amazon, due to trust and security that I will even get my item, let alone on time.

Re: Sufficient. (Reply to this comment)
by brandy681
I have actually not had any problems with Amazon! I have always bought tons of dvds from Amazon and I use their free shipping also. I have always received my products in 3-5 days of purchase which is amazing!!! Deep discount dvd website is always slow and takes 7-12 days to arrive but not Amazon, not for me anyways. I have only contacted Customer Service once to ask a question about a pre-order that I had because I did not see a charge on my credit card and found out that they do not charge you until they ship your items. Amazon also has the best tracking system anywhere online, I think.
Your review is good and you are intitled to your opinion but I do have a question. You said that you don't shop their anymore but on your review you checked recommended, as yes.
Great Review!

This very detailed review covers everything you need to know about Amazon.com. The review discusses customer service, payments, checkouts, order methods, and tons more! Unfortunately, the review had an unpleasant experience with the site, unlike my many transactions with them. I hope it gets positive for you!
Thanks,

They absolutely have the power to rectify the situation (if they choose). It's unfortunate that they don't make that a priority.
Thanks for sharing. When this all resolved I encourage you to write an Epinion about it. I'll be on the lookout.

Shipping (Reply to this comment)
by greenfalcon73
I am in the middle of a shipping problem with Amazon and UPS. I ordered a dvd lastweek, paying extra so that it would arrive in time to take to a friends birthday party. Guess what, lost in shipment by UPS. Normally when this happens UPS can put out a tracer and find the lost package or issue a claim to the shipper. Upon speaking to the UPS Rep, i was told that Amazon did not allow them to do that, and that I would have to contact amazon for further help. I have, and the help they give stinks of script reading. I was told to continue, which to me is unacceptable. I work in customer service myself, and I always do anything possible to help my customers, something that amazon is not doing, and not allowing UPS to do.

You have no reason to apologize for not agreeing, that's your right. I thought maybe I'd copy the Epinions rating guidelines for you, so you could point out why you feel according to the site, that my review deserved the rating you gave it.
Not Helpful: The review is off-topic, inaccurate, offensive, or copied from another source.
Somewhat Helpful: The review is poorly presented or somewhat inaccurate.
Helpful: The review is accurate and well-presented.
Very Helpful: The review is exceptionally accurate, contains a significant amount of useful information about the subject, and is very well presented.
I don't see how my review could be termed any of the following "off-topic" "inaccurate" "offensive" or "plagiarized". So while I don't care if you disagree with me on the value of customer service I was merely trying to point out what one might expect from the Amazon site, and what one might expect after shopping at the Amazon site.
MY opinion is that there are many merchants out there that do it ALL right and still manage to care, and potential customers might want to know about them.
You are entitled to your opinion, as I am mine. You write "There are way too many great things about amazon.com to give your negative review about customer service a VH. I am sorry.
Please check out Epinions ratings guidelines and show me where a review that you disagree with is listed.
By the way, I also think Amazon.com has plenty of great things, thus the long list you refer too at the beginning of your comment, I just wanted to point out what needs tweaking.
Thanks for stopping by.

Reasins for my ratng........ (Reply to this comment)
by June_Bride
You go on and on about how great all these different features are at amazon....i nice long list, then you say at the end that you won't shop there anymore. It is silly.
What is Amazon.com? It is an internet shopping site, on the internet using a computer. It is what it is. I am by no means saying that bad customer service is ok, but you say they have gotten too "big and impersonal" for you. Well Using a computer to shop is easy and fun, but no one ever said it was personal. While I do think that the People at amazon should always treat customers right, I also think you need to consider the site. It is a big site with a lot of merchandise and a lot of shoppers. It takes a lot to be BIG, successful and Good at customer service. So yes they need to work on that aspect, I'll give you that. They need to be big, successful and GREAT at customer service. There are way too many great things about amazon.com to give your negative review about customer service a VH. I am sorry. By the way I too have been a long time shopper there, amazon.cm was the first place I ever bought anything online. As I have shopped online at many other stores now, I still love amazon.com the best. I have never had a problem, any kind of disrespect from anyone there and I have never experienced any long waits to receive my purchases. These are my opinions and I am sorry if people don't agree.

I just bought from them for the first and last time (Reply to this comment)

I needed a textbook out of stock at my usual sites. There it was on Amazon, "ready to ship in 3-4 days." I bulked up my order with stuff I wanted but didn't need to get the free shipping, even though I knew free shipping would delay my order by a few days. After I'd placed my order Amazon told me I could expect delivery on or about July 12.
Checked the status of my order on the site and found out the textbook was delayed and wouldn't get to me until July 26. I can read fast but not this fast - the class ends July 25. Immediately cancelled the textbook but the rest of the order was already in "packing" status. Fired off an email explaining the class would be over by the time I got the book, didn't need the other stuff, demanded they cancel the rest of the order. Got an email telling me that might not be possible, along with some "to prevent further disappointment you should know that the free shipping adds some time to your order." I'd already factored that in, thank you, I didn't factor in an addtional two-week delay to get a book the site said was ready to ship in 3 days. Got another email that the order was cancelled.
12 hours after I'd spotted it on the website, I got an email telling me part of my order would be delayed. Gee, thanks.
Never shopped there before since I'd always found better prices elsewhere and this cements my "don't shop there" opinion. Thanks for the great review!

that you could mail in checks for payment. LOL That surprises me. I always thought it was all credit card. That's what I get for thinkin', I guess. ;)
Sorry you had a hard time with them. They screwed up and overcharged me but I emailed them and had the credit within 3 days. :( I'm sorry your experience wasn't good, but my mom had a similar problem, so it doesn't surprise me. :(
Also making a note of that customer service number. LOL :)
Great review!

If I got left short the way that you did, and they did nothing for me after the thousands of dollars I've spent, that would be the last penny I spent with them. As it is, I'd already resolved (strengthened by your review) to not give them my critical orders.
Mission accomplished! It pained me to no end to write that, but honestly I think they have gotten to the point of profitability that it simply doesn't bother them to lose a few customers. It's disheartening.

It happens with all companies eventually unless they stay small. At least you have had good service with their other affiliates so you are still shopping at those.
I think so sadly. I really can't complain about the others though, so thats something positive.

I wonder how many people were their firsts? It's certainly intuitive for finding what you need, and those discounts when they first opened up were stunning.
Thanks.

That's good to hear, and it's as it should be. I tend to wonder since they're starting to be profitable if they're not as "hungry" for business anymore.
Thanks for reading.

... Amazon.com fan there is, but your review doesn't surprise me. I've noticed them getting sloppy about stock outs and shipping delays.
I haven't had any problems that have caused me problems. I appreciate that they split my orders up and ship what they can first, without extra charges, but I also haven't had critical in hands dates.

that the site has become impersonal for you but it seems to be happening a lot to sites I use to love to. It happens with all companies eventually unless they stay small. At least you have had good service with their other affiliates so you are still shopping at those. Personally I have not had any bad experiences with Amazon but I do agree with the site becoming more impersonal.

Sorry to hear yours was not quite as pleasant, I tend to think that once any company gets too big they stop caring about their Customers, It's very dis-heartening!
