Aggravated and Annoyed best describe me when it comes to the subject of electric can openers lately. The Demon (Proctor Silex) and the Slasher (Black & Decker) turned me against electric can openers. While I would still like to have a decent electric can opener, I have practically given up on the idea. Finally, I have found a can opener that works with no cursing required or needed!

Sporting comfort-grip handles the Farberware Professional Can Opener is a raging black beauty. Both sides of the grip on the handle and the knob are manufactured with durable thick plastic material. The bottom section of the grip is molded so that your fingers rest in grooves while in use. The knob is large in size and is styled perfectly for your thumb and first finger for easy management. The metal portion of this hand held genius also bestows a bottle opener and a hanging hole for easy storage.


How Does It Feel?

The Farberware Professional Can Opener is without a doubt, the lightest hand-held can opener I have ever used. The inexpensive hand held jobs you can buy are often heavy and they hurt your hand while trying to operate. With the ease of use and handling comfort, I believe this product would be an ideal choice for the elderly who suffer from arthritis.


Does It Work?

I believe it is fair for me to call myself a Can Opener Horror veteran and one thing that peeved me was the way I often had to hold the can up to the can opener. Many brands specify that you only have to support the can when it is heavy. Maybe that is true, but not with the brands I have encountered. I am stuck holding the can up to the opener and fighting with the dab blem thing just to pierce through the can initially. The Farberware Professional Can Opener features positive traction with the multi-gear wheels and penetrating the can with the first attempt is always a success.

Once punctured this hand-held cutlery continues to glide without a hitch. Your can is opened in a matter of seconds and you didn’t even feel the need to tell it where to go. Now that’s something to brag about these days. I can completely open and pour the contents from three cans before I could one can with the Demon and Slasher.

We typically don’t purchase bottles that require the bottle opener but I had to give it a test so that I could give you a thorough review. The result of opening my bottled Coca-Cola was an additional victory.


Instructions

You are instructed how to properly function your black beauty on the back of the packaging. The instructions state:

1. Holding can opener with handles open, place cutting wheel over rim of can.

2. Squeeze handles together and turn knob clockwise. Leave a small portion of the lid uncut.

3. Remove can opener from can by opening handles. Bend lid of can back to remove contents.

What the instructions should state is:

If you have ever fallen victim to the electric tin can opener this product is here to rescue you. No thank you is needed. Just the absence of the words Go to Hell and I Hate This Piece of Sh*t is significantly appreciated.


Cleaning & Durability

Also in black and white print on the back of the package, you will discover the cleaning instructions. I will admit this is the first time I have read what the instructions for use and cleaning state. We are instructed:

To care for your new Farberware Can Opener, do not immerse in water to clean. Use damp cloth to clean gear wheels and towel dry.

Okay, there are some product directions that I simply ignore and this is one of them. While I don’t recommend following in my footsteps, I will share with you how I clean my black beauty.

After usage, I toss it in the dishwasher. Add detergent and zip, zap and zoom! Now my hand held is free of all the juice and presence of food from what I previously opened.

I am fully aware that I am cutting the life span of my Farberware Professional Can Opener in half but I believe in being sanitary. I have been the smiling, pleased, non-swearing owner of my hand held for about two months now and use it on a daily basis. It is holding up just fine and continuing to go strong.

The Farberware Professional Can Opener is reasonably priced too. While we want a product that functions appropriately, we also want it to be affordable. This hand held can be purchased for less than $6.00 at Wal-mart. I am certain you can locate it at other retail stores such as Target or K-mart as well.


Limited Lifetime Warranty Included

The Farberware Professional Can Opener comes with a limited lifetime warranty as well. It is guaranteed to be free from defects in material and workmanship. If any piece is found to be flawed under normal use (dishwashing is not normal use) your product will be repaired or replaced at no charge with the identical item or an item of equivalent value.

Final Words

I realize no product is perfect but the Farberware Professional Can Opener is one that comes as close to perfection that I have seen. This hand held is reliable, easy to use and inexpensive. That is the type of performance I expect from a can opener. I can save the electricity for products that will actually function for my family.
