Get More...static?
Written: Jun 21 '02 (Updated Jun 21 '02)
When you read all these wireless service reviews on Epinions, you see a LOT about static and bad service. I really don't think this is limited to Voicestream. Let's face it, every carrier has static. It's just not possible (with today's technology, at least) to cover every hill, valley, nook, and cranny in the entire world. Yes, there are some static-filled areas when I used my Voicestream service. But when my dad calls me through his (non-Voicestream) cel provided guess what? He has dead spots, too. I think it's unrealistic to expect 100% coverage from your wireless provider.
We've had our Voicestream phone service for nearly 3 years now, and frankly I wouldn't switch it. We have a great plan, including local and national long-distance and lots of bells and whistles for under $50/month. In fact, we've stopped using our local carrier for long distance entirely, which has made our local bills go from over $100 a month to just $23. The built-in caller ID feature with Voicestream gives me the freedom to forward my home phone and still know who's calling. If I don't want to talk to a particular person, one button lets me send them directly to voicemail.
Speaking of voicemail, Voicestream recently upgraded their voicemail and it is much easier to use than it used to be. The only annoying feature is after you delete a message it tells you you can un-delete it. Um, I just deleted it - do I really want to un-delete it? I dunno.
Another cool feature that I use often is the "iStream" internet service. I never thought I'd be one of those who uses internet on my cel-phone, but I LOVE IT. The "My iStream" feature lets me customize news, sports, weather, and (my favorite feature of all!) movies. Yes, that's right, I've saved all our local movie theaters and with just a few clicks I can see what's playing, and when. iStream also features AOL Instant Messenger - and once you get good at keyboarding on your keypad, you can IM with your friends day and night. There are also several online games which you can play alone or with others online. The online matchmaker service looks like fun, too, if you're single. :)
I've used other wireless providers in the past, and frankly I haven't found one that is as reliable, affordable, and customer-focused as Voicestream. Yes, there are some dead spots around town, but I just avoid phone calls when I'm in those areas. I plan to stick with Voicestream as long as they'll have me.
