Almost 8 years of being a loyal Cars.com fan I still am very satisfied with my visits to Cars.com. As a consumer I am always trying to find the latest info and prices on cars. As a writer I also use Cars.com, I trust Cars.com to give me the accurate specs, such as horse power and torque specs of the cars I test drive/own and incorporate this info in my car reviews.
Cars.com is not only an excellent source for accurate car information but it also offers excellent photography, 360 degree views on new cars, and is an excellent place to sell your vehicle or buy a new/used vehicle. Cars.com also offers individual vehicle history, blue book values, informative reviews, insurance rates, and much more. One can think of Cars.com as really thick 'car magazine'.
Formatting: The site is very easy to use, every feature is displayed very clearly. Feature by feature you most likely will find navigating through the site very easy and fun. Cars.com has a great help section if you have any problems using the site.
How much does it cost to be a member? There is no membership fee whatsoever, in-fact there is no membership available. Just log on the Cars.com and you have instant access to everything Cars.com has to offer (besides selling). Cars.com makes most of their money from advertisements which you will find on almost every page.
Buying a car: Buying a new or used car via Cars.com is simple. To buy a car you simply type the make and the model of the car you are looking for, the amount you want to spend, your area code, how many miles you would travel to buy the car, and then click 'go'. A list of the car you want to buy will appear if it is available in your price range or location. The phone number of the seller is given along with a description of the car, it's exactly like a classified ad.
Selling your car: Selling your car is a bit more difficult than buying, but is still relatively easy. In the case of selling a car you do need to create an account which will be issued after you have submitted all the information on the car that you want posted for sale. For 25 dollars you can post your ad along with a picture tell it sells. Cars.com receives hundreds of thousands of individual visits per day so it's well worth the 25 dollars.
What I like about Cars.com: Besides getting accurate car info, I love reading the excellent reviews Cars.com offers on most of the cars they have in their database. I mostly enjoy reading older car reviews, such as reviews on cars back in 1982-1986. It's very interesting to read reviews on cars that were once new and glamorous, and now considered to be junk by many.
What I dislike: Downloading times can be quite slow at many times during the day. I also think it would be a nice addition if Cars.com starting adding the 0-60 times, etc. of the cars reviewed. Some of the articles do have this info, but over 90% of them don't have the technical road test info .
Conclusion: Cars.com could use some improvements in some areas, but as it stands, Cars.com proves to be a very refined website dedicated to motor vehicles.
