In more recent reviews of the 3 I've noted that it is much more enjoyable on a track than on the road. You have to really be able to push this car to enjoy it in my opinion. It's possible that your driving frequently includes challenging roads. Where I live this is rarely the case. Instead, a BMW is operating far beneath its capabilities and tends to be a rather boring drive. While a BMW is a blast at 9/10th, other cars are more enjoyable at 5/10ths.

No one claimed it was the "Ultimate Radio Machine". Replace the radio. Add a better antenna.

But basing your car buying/driving on AM radio reception? My wifes Honda Oddyssy Mini Van has excellent AM reception....I would hate (in fact I do!) driving it all the time.

Please don't pan a great drivers car for something like AM reception. You are correct...A Kia might sound better from the speakers. Buy it.

I thought your review was a little harsh. I own (you knew that though didn't you?) a 2002 325i. I drive it tons (26 months old-77K miles). I also have owned other "sporty" cars in the past.

The car you drove probably had the Conti OEM tires. I will fault BMW for this choice. These tires perform poorly in all conditions. I replaced them with XGT-H4 at 28K and drove home a new car. I guess what I am trying to say is that had you driven that car with better rubber you may have had a much higher opinion of its handling/ride capabilities.....

I agree with all the comments in the review about what a wonderful machine the 325 is. However, if you own one, you want to take it on trips, right? Then you find out that it comes with the worst radio in the business, and BMW knows it! In my driveway, I scan just one AM station on the 325, 16 on my Ford Ranger, and 17 on my Avalon. FM performance is not quite as bad, about average, and the sound system is less than average. BMW agrees radio performance may not be as good as other, cheaper cars, and blames their window antenna, but BMW won't install an outside antenna. My Avalon (a great car in ALL respects) does just fine with their window antenna.

Sadly, my 2001 325i has now become a "condo" car for me, to drive to the store and the country club. What a $35,000. disappointment!

The ride of the Z3 is too jittery. Note that I asked for a 3 with the steering, braking, and shifting feel of the Z3. I had no problems with the 325 chassis in itself, just my interface with it. I definitely don't want a 3 with the ride of a Z3.

I hope this usefully clarifies my review. As for the Z3 1.9, I haven't driven that version, but suspect that the 2.5 strikes the right balance, with the 1.9 having too little power and the 3.0 too much to stay out of trouble (even with automatic the 3.0 hits 80 very quickly).
