Why I switched from Sprint PCS (Reply to this comment)
by tjohnston
Sprint PCS Cell service in the SF Bay Area in my review is horrible and dropped calls is a major problem.
On major highways (880, 680, 80, 24, 13, and 4) my cell service is often dropped. Using Sprint cell service in the hills, valleys and in areas in the city blocked by high buildings or while out in the suburbs of San Francisco the Sprint service in generally not even available (roam service feature does not work as either in most cases). I have tried three different models of phones as directed by the phone support that some Sprint cell models may work better than others may and this has not changed my service to be better at all. I purchased this phone with safety in mind and when I cannot even get a signal, it leaves me feeling less than safe and totally unsatisfied.

On the two occasions I had where I needed emergency response (one due to a DUI bumping my bumper repeatedly on the road in a horrifying Bay Area highway ride that ended with the DUI fatally running of the road into a tree) the San Francisco Based CHP 911 system failed me atrociously. It took me over 15 minutes of waiting listening to the please hold message before I was able to speak with a real live person. Using a cell phone for emergency 911 service purposes in the Bay Area is a joke as I found out the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is the primary agency answering calls here and does so for several counties including the entire city of San Francisco. The California Highway patrol dispatcher told me how overloaded they were and that waits of ten (10) minutes or more are normal for the emergency line. By the time you get help in the bay area from 911 be assured you will be dead, robbed, or out of blood.

Over 1.6 million page views?! That's awesome, especially considering the relatively low number of reviews you've written. Why have you been gone so long?

I recently dropped my Sprint service also... (Reply to this comment)
by opinionsharer
cuz I had major issues with their customer service/billing depts. But it's too bad about your static on your new service. I haven't ever had that particular problem on a cell. I hope you get that cleared up one way or another.

The "D" (Reply to this comment)
by Javelina
It's funny- I've had a Nokia 8260 and AT&T for over a year and a half, and I completely ignored the "D" on the screen forever, since it seemed sporadic and not important. The only thing I cared was if I was in my calling area, and the level of the battery and signal bars. Finally, I looked the "D" up in the manual, so I was a little disappointed because I never noticed a difference anyway. :)

the news of your demise was obviously greatly exaggerated. Nice to read something from an Epinions who is a bit of a legend in these parts.

Surprised to see you name pop up, but then I have been out of circulation so didn't know if you were writing before now.

My AT&T worked fine while I was in Texas but the goof that sold me the plan fouled it up. When I returned to Iowa last Saturday, I found out my home address was not covered. I wanted the one rate plan that covered the whole USA, found out it only covered those that carried AT&T.

I got it straightened out by called the Home Base and raising hell. I will not have roaming charges while I am in Iowa as I have the gals name and she will call to check on me during this months service. LOL! You have to make your voice heard, call the service people and COMPLAIN.

Glad your back, I thought you moved back to Germany.
