| hansmoleman's Full Review: Medal of Honor: Allied Assault For Windows |
With the best graphics, sound, and missions I've seen, MOHAA comes in 1st in my top 10 list of best computer games.
Graphics: MOHAA's graphics are amazing. Notice the eyes on everyone aren't just pictures but actual polygons that move almost life-like. Everything in this game has a high polygon count whether it's a weapon or a pipe. Also notice the expressions the people have. You can actually tell if they are worried, mad, happy, ect. That is something that really impressed me. Death animations are superb, especially on the beach assault mission. I can't see how people don't think that MOHAA's graphics are extremely good. What's bad about them?! Maybe they didn't put it at a very high resolution or set the details high but to me that just doesn't make sense. They say the graphics are average and even bad but if they didn't set the details or resolution high then how would they know?
Anyways, from a scale of 1-10 (1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest) I would give them a 10/10.
Cons: Well, the worst thing is the fact that there's no blood. Just think of how cool it would be if the beach assault had blood and gore. It would be even better than it already is! Well, the blood-less-ness was very disappointing. Second, the AI is a bit weak. It is very cool how the enemy takes cover behind a wall and either peaks around it, blindlessly shoots around it, or shoots while peaking, but still, your fellow Allies aren't very smart. Not really "not smart" but if an enemy is in a room and one of your allies sees him, he would sometimes run against a wall for quite some time before he finds a way to get in the room and shoot the enemy. You know, stuff like that. One more con is the ending. It ended so abruptly that I didn't know it was the end until the words "THE END" appeared in the middle of the screen. That was very disappointing. But since the rest of the game is almost flawless, these cons don't make much of a difference.
Beach Assault: I just can't get enough of the Omaha Beach Assault. It starts out with you in one of those Higgin's boats with your fellow comrades. As you get closer to the beach, one of the other Higgin's boats get pounded by a Nazi mortar which sends a few soldiers flying right out of the boat. Then you get to the beach and when the ramp falls, 5 or 6 of those in front of you get riddled with bullets from the MG42s stationed in the two bunkers. You have to find a way up the beach to the shingle which is very simple (on the easy difficulty setting). Once you get there a squad of soldiers get slaughtered by a mortar and MG42s. Among those who get killed is the bangalore carrier. "Powell, go back down there, and grab those bangalores!" are the exact words the Captain say to you. Once you get them and give them to the two soldiers beside the Captain, you just wait for the shingle to go BOOM which is when you run up tho the left bunker. The hardest part is here. You need to run across a mine field along with two MG42s on the top of the bluff. I won't tell you how to do it but I can say it was hard. Anyways, there's still much more to it but I don't want to explain all of it. I have played this mission probably about 10 times and still am not tired of the terrific sound fx and just plain coolness.
Conclusion: Get this game and I know you will not be disappointed. It is the best WWII game ever made but even so it's not perfect. But still, it's near perfection. PC Gamer gave this game a 91% which is extremely good, but I think that it deserves a 94%. I hope some people change their opinion about the graphics on this game and I hope you learned at least one thing about MOHAA.
