A good Start, needs much work

Written: Jun 28 '02 (Updated Jun 28 '02)
Pros:Strong material, Targus Warranty
Cons:Flimsy notebook protection, needs more specific pockets
The Bottom Line: STANDARD version is just as good and cheaper, make sure you get the RakGear version!

The RakGear adds an internal shelving system which distributes the weight MUCH better. Approved by a Chiropract. Association.

You've probably read the hype and at this time, the product info is NOT on the Targus web site for some reason...:-( So I'll deal with what is not on the hype. The case is a bit flimsy in the notebook compartment, all there is, is a light grade foam packaged in a nylon shell. This is slung between the two sides forming a pocket in one of the main compartments. It needs to be far more padded and much stiffer to better protect the notebook. It has an additional Spinal pad which is lacking on the STANDARD. More pockets, both normal and netting. Missing pockets: There is nothing but some possible tie points on the straps. A $20 case at Wal-Mart is better here, I would like to see at least a Cell Phone pocket on the shoulder straps, how many of us are going to get the backpack off and dig our way to the phone before it stops ringing or want to trust it to a loose outer pocket where it can be lost? I certainly don't. All in all, there is really nothing DELUXE about this case, it is a good start, but needs further work. If I was buying again, I would probably buy the STANDARD Notebook RakGear Backpack. (Make sure you get the RakGear version - your back will love you for it..)

I Sent Targus a note with some suggestions, perhaps this will give you an idea where it is lacking..: Additional suggestions include internal strapping for securing things such as portable printers, internal padded pockets for spare/ swappable drives and batteries, internal pocket at top for mp3/ cd player with a cord route to protect the wire from the zipper teeth, cell phone and other pockets on shoulder straps.
