Oh my, where to begin...
A year and a half ago my wife and I were married. Neither of us are big "beach people" so we decided to spend our honeymoon traveling throughout New England staying at various Inns and Bed&Breakfasts. The Franconia Inn was our first stop. It is located in the gorgeous White Mountains of New Hampshire in a section called Franconia Notch. It is an enormous "country style" inn. The internal decor is very luxurious, though at the same time rustic and "countrified" - like what you would expect to see at a mountain ski lodge.
So, we went up in June (1999) and spent two nights. We stayed in a cute room with beautiful finished wood furniture and a nice, large bathroom. The view out the window (any window) is of the gorgeous mountain views and directly out our window was the horse stable, where we woke up to the horses grazing in the field (my wife loved that part). The main dining room is exquisite with full windows on three sides of the room. The food was gourmet, plentiful and SO GOOD. That is always one of the main things we come away with... WHAT GREAT FOOD! The last time I was there I had rainbow trout with an asparagus sauce that was out of this world. In the finished basement is a game room with ping pong, darts, checkers, pin ball and lots of comfy chairs for sitting and talking. They also have a very nice bar downstairs where couples will gather in the evenings to meet each other and talk over a nice drink.
Outside there is a full-size, in-ground pool, a nice hot tub, clay tennis courts, an air field with gliders and riding stables. The inn is also very close to such attractions as The Old Man of the Mountain (New Hampshire's symbol), Mount Washington, the Appalachian Trail, the Kankamangus Highway, and miles upon miles of hiking, backpacking, biking and CC Skiing trails. No matter what time of year you come here there is tons to do.
After we stayed there we moved on to another Inn on the other side of the state and absolutely hated it because all we could do is compare it to the Franconia Inn. We decided to leave that place early and go all the way back to Franconia. We also went back up to the Franconia Inn for our 1-year anniversary and I have already made our reservation for this June for our 2-year anniversary. I feel the biggest testament to the quality of a product or service is repeat customers. We plan to make Franconia a home away from home.
