  • User Rating: Excellent
  • Ease of Use:
  • Quality of Tech Support:
Pros:Great system for the price.
Cons:Only supports PCI cards (modems, network cards, etc.) No ISA Slots.
The Bottom Line: The bottom line. If you are looking for a PC, look no farther than a Dell. You wont be disappointed.

I recently purchased a Dell Dimension 8200 Desktop direct from Dell.

The top features that influenced me to choose this PC is the processor speed, RAM, and the fact that the computer has room to be upgraded. Another less important aspect of this system that influenced my purchase is the color. The black color of the Dell systems looks so much better than the traditional off-white color of most systems.

OK. Let's start with the basics. The system that I purchased was $1100, and came with a P4 2.0Ghz processor, 128Mb. of PC133 RAM, DVD-ROM, CD-RW, 56K modem, 10/100 NIC card, and a 20Gb. Hard Drive. Windows XP Professional was pre-installed as I requested when placing the order.

Some of the top features of this system is that there is an additional drive bay on the front of the system to add a DVD-RW in the future. There are also 4 open slots for adding additional RAM, 4 USB ports, and 5 PCI slots. The system could also not be any easier to open to perform an upgrade. To open the case, you simply lay the tower on it's side, press 2 buttons, and open the case like you would the hood of your car. No screws, and no tools required.

Since my purchase of this system 2 months ago, I have only had to place one call to Technical Support to find out what processor speed the PC can be upgraded to. My call was answered promptly, and the technician was able to provide the answer immediatly. My experience with Dell tech support was much better than experiences with other PC support departments.

Since the date of purchase, I have had no problems with my Dell system, and the 3 year on-site warranty is the best compared to the warranties of other PC manufactures. I would recommend a Dell to anyone.
