I read a lot of product and eStore reviews before deciding to buy a Canon SD800 IS from Beach Camera. They didn't have the lowest price overall but seemed to have a combination of low price and low amount of "horror story" reviews. I'm leaving for a Kauai vacation in a couple of weeks and was worried about buying a camera online and receiving it in time, especially since Beach is in NJ and I'm in CA (no tax: good, 3000 miles away: not so good). I decided to spring for the $8 4-6 day shipping instead of the free 6-9 day shipping. Apparently, it was a good choice as I got my camera delivered in TWO days. FedEx even left it w/o requiring a signature as I was expecting (I was home anyway but the FedEx guy said no signature required). Sure, this was a simple, 1-item transaction but I couldn't be happier at the way it went down.
I bought a 2GB 150x SD card and spare battery locally at Fry's for a $23 (-$5 mail-in rebate) and $20 respectively, a fraction of what most places want for them. I would have gladly bought them from Beach if they were competitive but they wanted 2x what I paid for each of those items, as did all other camera etailers I checked. Guess it's easier to make a buck on the accessories.

Beach Camera has took me to the cleaners. They won't even deliver the item I ordered, kept my money and a month and 1/2 later still haven't received a refund or the item. (which they say is on back-order) which was confirmed that it was "in stock".

Thanks for the kind words - hope this review helps all of you, all these shops have some very slick talkers...I think with some caution and apprehension however, Beach can work well for you guys.

... thank you very much. One of the most nerve-wracking online shopping experiences I've had is buying a camera. Everything worked out fine, but I was completely convinced I was going to be taken at every turn.
