I finally saw Lars von Trier's "Dancer in the Dark" with Björk's astonishing portrayal of the gruesome life of the title character and an impressively generous Catherine Deneuve. The pace of the movie is glacial and the woman is crushed like something in the path of a glacier (very Icelandic, I think, though the character is supposed to be Czech...). It is a harrowing, great performance in a movie that attempts to be weird (the musical interludes) but is unbearably dull and just plain unbearable.

Both probably apply though I meant the movie.

Re your comments on Before Night Falls: I enjoyed your probably unintended word order, "Although mostly desexualized, I ..." I take it you mean the movie was mostly desexualized, not you.
