If you want to buy some good quality separates that you can mix-and-match, then Eddie Bauer com is a great place to shop. The classic cuts and the neutral colors mean that you don’t look like something the cat dragged up to the front door when you jump out of bed and suit up for the day.
Matching up clothes is not my favorite thing. I will go to town and find all kinds of things I love. Then I hang those clothes in my closet and wonder what I am going to wear with them. Even a simple color like black comes in all manner of shades and textures which may or may not work at all together.
EB.com must know that many people have problems with getting the right things to go together. First, they make colors that go well together. My favorites for mixing are beige, black, red, and then I like dark lavendar (which I get other places). Then they even have an “outfits” click and “mix and match.” Those are links from near the bottom on the home page. Even when I don’t buy all the pices espeically adding on shoes and jewelry, I still get an idea what will look good.
Most of these clothes fall in the preppie range, but they are simple and can be teamed with other things that I have in my closet. The shorts are some of my favorites. I got beige, black, red, and blue jean. Those will go with most any shirts I have. They are comfortable with good elastic that fits neatly at the waist without being bulgy. Most all the shorts have pockets which I love. I keep my keys and stuff in my pockets when I have them, so pockets are a plus and really great when they fit close and flat but are deep like these. The cotton shirts are also nice. They go fine with the shorts or with long or short straight skirts (which EB also has). The only thing I notice that I don’t like on the shirts is that the they seem to get a tad shorter and wider after washing. This is vert minimal, but I notice things like that.
The EB clothes are not the ones that I drive across town to show my mom. "Hey mom, I got some off white short." They are pretty plain, but they dress up or down nicely. They are made well and of cotton and fit and feel great. hey wash over and over and still look good. I line dry a lot, and I have not had problems with fading on the EB items.
In addition to clothing for women, men and kids (and babies more recently), EB has very nice things for the home. The EB close my house (about an hour drive) does not have the home items. It’s just a small store in the mall. It’s nice to be able to get the EB things for my house online. Right now, I am watching the rose bed set. Again, they help on the mix and match. Everything you would want is on one page after you click on a set you like.
One of the best purchases we've made from EB is the lunch boxes. Caleb carries a lunch every day, and Eli carries a lot too. Those ran $12. After a full year of use, they are still good. Usually, I have to replace lunch boxes each year. This year I don't have to which is great.
Prices are on the high end--not over the top but pricey. I keep an eye out for sales and also check the outlet shop that is linked at EB. They also have good end of-season sales with a decent selection. On the regular site, many of the sales are mixed in. Just look for the red prices to alert you to the dropped prices. You can also go to “sale” and see a more complete list, but you’ll need to pull up items to see what they look like.
As far as shipping, EB runs about the same as the other nice clothing stores on line. It goes up as you buy more. My orders are fairly small, so I run about $10 per shopping trip. The prices are OK if you keep the items. If you have not shopped at EB, then check the size charts or visit the mall and get a feel for the sizes. Overall, I would say to go down one size from what you might usually get. I get medium in shorts, but I get large in tops from EB. I really hate a tight shirt, and Ihave a big chest, but baggy shorts are pretty bad too.
If you aren’t sure about the sizing or if you have questions about an item, don’t hesitate to call (or contact them online). I’ve called a couple of times, and the telephone help is great. When I’m talking about fit on clothes, I prefer to talk on the phone though I have used online help with pop up which is nice too.
When you order from EB, they let you know by email and have tracking on the site. They are quick about getting things out, and they arrive in great condition. If you do have a problem on that, then they will replace or refund and also the shipping if the product is defective or messed up during shipping. Call on that to let them know and get that arranged.
I’ve shopped off and on at EB online for a while (store, catalog, online). Since I’m going to NY City soon, I wanted to get some nice things that were comfortable, cool, and that matched. I knew that EB would be a safe bet, so I went with got a good selection of cotton shorts and tops. When I add a few items that I have already and some jewelry, then I’m set.
