My family and I decided to take a little flight to Las Vegas from LaGuardia in New York City. We were originally going to fly from Rochester but the fare came out to $450. The fare from LaGuardia was $350, still not great, but better.
LaGuardia - Cleveland
Our flight was scheduled to leave on a Boeing 737 aircraft at 6:30 in the morning for Cleveland. So we checked in with a professional Continental worker who was very helpful. She was polite and knew exactly what she was doing, great sign! There was not a long line since Continental isnt that big at LaGuardia.
We boarded the plane from the back forward but there was no need, there must have been 15 people on board since the plane was going to get more people in Cleveland then move on to Houston. The plane was very clean and there were comfortable seats. We were sitting right behind the business class section, so we had a large amount of leg room! We took off on time and got a drink and peanuts. We arrived into Cleveland and disembarked into a smaller terminal with about 15 gates. We easily found our gate that said " Las Vegas, 9:45 am, on time ".Well, I sat there with my family and waited for about 15 minutes when we remembered that we haden`t ate breakfast!
We walked through the terminal to find a place to eat. While searching, we saw many small shops. There were also CD shops, and magazines stands along with snack stands. We bought some chips and a pretzels from this stand. It didnt cost much, unlike LaGuardia. I know that LaGuardia had more expensive items because of previous experiences on other airlines.
Cleveland - Las Vegas McCarran International Airport
The flight had 117 passengers on board and we were on a small plane. We were on a Boeing 737 again. These planes seat about 120 people. This was a cross-country flight so maybe they should have upgraded the aircraft to a Boeing 757 which seats about 170. We left on time with friendly flight attendants who had a great sense of humor. They popped jokes when you least expected it. Well, we were about 30 minutes into our flight when I asked a flight attendant what the movie would be. She said that there was not going to be a movie that flight. She said that the video system was down, but she was very apologetic. You must know how mad frustrated I was. There I was on a four hour flight and no entertainment. On top of that, the flight is really packed so it is extremely hot and we are on a tiny airplane. That is not the worst part, I waited, waited and waited but no meal, only a drink and peanuts. I don`t see any quality there and it is not that nice when on board a flight you paid a little higher than you would get on some other airlines. The rest of the flight was uneventful. However, my seat was very comfortable. There was an attached pillow to the top of the seat, and the leg room was enough for me! Therefore, I was able to sleep. There is one event! I was then awakened by a cheerful flight attendant. She alerted me that we were on our final arrival into Las Vegas. Therefore, I had to bring up my seat. I dont see what difference bringing up my seat does. It only went down about two inches. However, that is how almost all airplane seats are. Five minutes after being waken up, we arrived into Las Vegas after a long roll down on the Las Vegas runway.
We finally made it to Las Vegas, and had a great time! This is my trip going back to New York City.
Las Vegas - Cleveland
Again we were all boarded on to a small Boeing 737 airplane after a nice visit to the friendly worker at the ticketing counter. She was very fast, but we had to wait a long time in the line because there was flights going to both Newark, and Houston. We then seated ourselves once again. The aircraft was very clean, as it was on previous flights that I took on Continental (LaGuardia-Cleveland, Cleveland-Las Vegas). Our seats once again had a good amount of leg room, and the seats were very spacious again. There was also a pillow to put on top of the attached pillow! The flight attendants were again very courteous, and tried to please all the passengers. They showed this by letting us keep our headphones that we purchased for five dollars. We purchased the headphones because of a movie that was played on this movie throughout the whole airplane, including the business class cabin. The business class cabin passengers did not have their own TV, but they had very spacious seats seating in a two by two order. You could fly in business class for another $100. You just give it to the flight attendant, and you are allowed your very spacious seat along with great meals and a cocktail. However, I did not fly in business class. This is just from what I saw. However, I was satisfied in the coach cabin. One small thing that ticked me off was that we ate from a small bowl filled with cereal, and we only had one drink. Meanwhile, the flight attendants had a larger bowl of cereal. However, they did play a game with us. They asked everyone which city they thought we were flying over with. The correct answer was Kansas City. Eventually, someone guessed it, and the flight attendants brought him to business class! Wow, do I envoy that person! However, that was a very good idea to play that game throughout the cabin. The rest of the flight went on with one more movie, and then the arrival into Cleveland.
This time, we had to connect to Continental Express for our flight into LaGuardia. So we took an escalator down to a well lighted tunnel. Throughout the tunnel was different pictures of many different objects. However, it was hard to identify the object. But as the Continental worker was driving us to the other side to get the escalator going up to the express terminal, he pointed out what some of the objects were.
Cleveland - LaGuardia
When boarding, we learned that we were not allowed to take on a carry-on because it would not fit under the seat in front of us. So when walking down the gateway, a friendly staff member of Continental took our carry-ons to the ERJ-145. This airplane seats 50 passengers. The seats were in a pattern. First of all, they were in one by two order. Second of all, there were two blue seats, the one white, and on and on. Though the aircraft was small, the seats were leather and somewhat spacious. Leg room was excellent however! Our flight attendant was young and very friendly. She came around one time with snacks including graham crackers, pretzels, and cookies. Then she came around with seconds. Our flight was packed, but we were over stocked. So therefore, seconds on snacks were available. However, we were not offered a drink. I can understand why. The flight was only 40 minutes long, and there was only one flight attendant. There wasnt enough time. I was quite impressed with Continental Express!
Overall - Continental is a good airline. They do have some issues to work out such as the small airplanes on cross-country flights, and the limited meal service. They should have notified us about having no entertainment on our Cleveland-Las Vegas flight, but I forgive them. Ill be sure to fly with them again because of their best efforts!
