Pros: Excellent tech-support, good processor speed, and great monitor.
Cons: Performs poorly with Windows ME, and can be very costly.
The Bottom Line: The Dell Dimension 8100 series is a great buy if you can afford it. With P4 1.4 ghz processor I can not complain.

When the Dell dimension 8100 series computer package arrived upon my doorstep I was ecstatic--that was until I received the bill. This pricey gem is a great performing computer with top of the line components and as always reliable technical support by Dell. Aside from the price, this computer is magical, and if you expect to get a top of the line computer at a low price you are just plain nuts. Of course any computer with a pentium 4 1.4 ghz processor speed and 200mhz bus speed is going to be costly, any computer with these specifications is not going to be cheap.
As a personal owner of this computer, I have never had any major problems. I have had this computer for nearly one year, upgrading the components every now and then, and it has been very reliable. Along with being reliable, you have Dell's outstanding service and support to back it up. If anything goes wrong you can simply call up Dell, tell them the problem and they will fix it for you free of charge, even if it means buying you a whole new computer, they will do it for you free of charge (that is if you spend the extra cash on the 3 year service and support which is well worth it).
This machine to me has served as both a work station for homework, webpage design, and computer programming, and as a toy for hardcore internet gaming. The acceptable bus speed keeps its internet activities at a fast pace and the 1.4 ghz processor makes offline tasks fast and efficient. The only thing I would recomend is to stay away from Windows ME because this operating system is not very compatible with the Dimension 8100, and creates memory leaks for me. Windows ME is not a good operating system in the first place, but it is even worse with this computer, so try to stay away from it. But if you really must have it, then I would suggest upgrading your memory to at least 384 megs of ram.
Anything that you buy from Dell can be trusted. To me, Dell is the number one computer company. They continually come out with performance computers that expand the horizon of technology. So if you have the extra cash to spend, and you want a great computer, then I would suggest the Dell Dimension 8100. Otherwise, I would stick to the less costly computers such as the 4100 series, or you could just wait a few months for the price to drop drastically, because the best computer today will be old news in nearly six months. If you are a computer buff and know what you are doing with computers as I do, then you are best off building your own computer by purchasing the parts you want and assembling it yourself for a much less costly price, and you will get exactly what you want.
The bottom of the line is that this is a great, reliable computer that is well worth the buy if you have the money. It will not fail to do its job and should satisfy all of your needs from internet tasks and 3d gaming, to writing documents homework.
