Your review is great, and your added info completely clears things up for those who wish to understand. I think I know the difference between a title and a picture, regardless of where the actual movie was or was not released.

The point here is that Epinions' rating system is working as it ought to work. The VHs outvote the naysayers, and for good reason.

How DARE you, Casey! You're one of the sacred anointed special few, and you go and pen an OFF-TOPIC REVIEW! And don't even try disputing your crime-- the charges must be true, as the secret police have appeared at your door, and we all know from experience that a) they are never wrong, and b) they never act without clear cause.

Your flimsy defense seems to be that 1) Epinions sometimes makes errors in its product DB (HERESY! BUUUURRRRN HER!) and 2) there are VCRs outside of America (HAHAHA! What sort of LUNACY is THIS?).

And don't EVEN try muddling the issue with extraneous facts such as "the actual video which is reviewed IS available from special dealers" and "lots of people have seen and OWN this video and can attest to the accuracy of the claim" and "all of this was checked in advance with actual appointed Eps folks."

I have no choice but to rate this piece "VERY HELPFUL" so as to draw as much attention as I can to the tragic crime you have committed. May Nirav have mercy on your soul.

Hi Kristina,

I am rewriting this because I had 3 replies, and that didn't make sense.

1. As mentioned in my disclaimer on this review, and elsewhere, I have contacted both Movie CLs of my intention to post on this, the correct title of the Uncle Remus movie, before posting.

2. This was a much as 3 weeks before posting, and a bug notice was sent to Baron at that time about the incorrect links, listed which refer to a music video/animated Disney movie by a different name.

3. To post a review about the children's video, a search of "Disney Sing-A-Long Volume 2" will bring up the correct title. Or even a search under "Disney". Since there is a separate title for this video, which has only a single SOTS tune, then Song of the South, is not the right place to post.

4. The movie I reviewed is available periodically through both eBay and Half.com, as well as the website I have indicated, www.songofthesouth.net, which also has linkes to PAL distributors willing to sell to the American market.

5. As I mentioned in other comments, and fully in my review, there is no need to post from IMDB, as I have done all research needed. I think if you read carefully you will see that points were made such as

NAACP never banned movie, or even called for its withdrawal, but at the time of initial release, expressed their (understandable) concerns re racial stereotyping.

Disney has never released this movie in the U.S. The converted PAL version I used, lists this prominently as a Disney Classic on the title along with the name, Song Of The South. Again, petitions are in place, with over 10,000 signatures, mine included, to have Disney, Buena Vista or subsidiaries release this marvelous film to a deserving and loyal U.S. audience.

There should be no need for me to move my review, since it is, after all, posted under the correct title. And when I clicked on Half.com I found 3 titles for Song of the South, (yes, mixed in with the children's video, but that is a common misconception).

As a classic and cult favorite, I took the time to fully research and contact all parties involved before reviewing, and will be most happy when the correct jpeg (available at the website listed above) accompanies this title, as it should.

Sincerely,

Casey

on creepy little technicalities is not helpful to preserving friendly community spirit. IMHO this is a time for a lot of 'live and let live' and not a time for strict adherence to the letter of the law.

This is a fine review of an outstanding film. It appears that the Epinionated Guys are going to correct the category, after which this review will not be Off Topic in any sense of the word.

Now I am going to run over to the official Song of the South site and sign that lil' 'ol petition thingy.

Dearest Casey:

This was one of my favorites as a wee tot. For some reason, I still own a 78 RPM (telling my age) of Burl Ives singing "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" - wonder where my parents found that one!?!

Thanks so much for recreating one of my all time most enjoyable memories. And...

Happy Birthday Markham!!!

Love you both,
Helen

Hi Laura,

Thank you for providing an explanation for your Off Topic rating. I appreciate that.

The movie I am reviewing is Song Of The South. Using a search engine for either this official Disney title (e.g. the one on the video, only available from foreign sources currently), or Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah, the unofficial title stemming from the very popular theme song of the movie, will find this review.

They will not find a Disney Sing-A-Long kiddie video, because there is none with the title Song Of The South. Of course, you are free to rate how you see fit, but it would seem that the vast majority of readers understand, from my disclaimer I have included at the bottom of the review, that I am reviewing the right movie, with the wrong graphics and specs.

Unfortunately, this has happened a number of times at Epinions, and I'm sure will happen again. As I've indicated, I have written both Movie CLs in this regard, and have done a first review of a wonderful, heart-warming movie that deserves a wider audience.

So with all due respect, I hope you understand I don't need to "move" my review, when my review is under the correct title, but I will be working with Baron, the official Eps Bug Man, to post the corrected specs and .jpeg file.

Thanks,

Casey

Well...the actual title of the movie is only Song of the South. Nowhere in the title of the movie are the words "Zip-a-dee-doo-dah"...I have this on video.

Don't get me wrong, this is a great review. But if you click on the "Specs", you get the specs for the Sing-Along Songs video, not the classic Disney film.

When/if Epinions decides to fix this, I'll happily re-rate this...but as it stands, with the picture and the specs taken into account, it's simply off-topic.

for letting me in on the petition info . . . too good a movie to be buried in the archives.

We are big singers of "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" here, and look forward to finding a copy of the movie for when the kids are a little older.

Great review!

Glad I could provide that spooky little coincidence and more information for you about this classic film, Song Of The South.

BTW, it is available both on eBay and also, from time to time at Half.com. I included a link to the best website, and you would be amazed at what a US conversion of this film/along with Pal original costs. I believe, at this time it was something like $156.

I've seen it other places for $25.00, but again, make sure you are getting a version compatible with US VHS, otherwise conversion charges are dear! Personally, I plan to sign the petition to have Disney release this in US, post haste, and there is a link to that petition at the neat Song of the South website I have listed.

Of course, you are entitled to your opinion, Stacey, but I have written both Movie CLs, and Epinions has the correct movie title listed for this film I have reviewed.

This was explained at the bottom of my review. I left the disclaimer for people such as yourself, who might be confused since Epinions has the wrong spec information and .jpeg. Something cannot be considered "off topic" if a writer is clearly reviewing Song Of The South: Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah, which, once again, is NOT the name of the children's series sing-a-long, incorrectly linked here. Hmmm?

Have a Wiggles day!

This is too weird. Just tonight over dinner my dad was singing Zippedy-doo-da and saying we should see "Song of the South." He said it was banned or something because of the racial stereotypes but it had fantastic music. And then I come across your review! I don't know where on earth to start tracking down this movie, but I'll have to see it now. Thanks for a very enlightening review!

I tried to tell somebody once that Song of The South a.) existed and b.) was a product of Disney. They told me it could be and didn't exist because they didn't know anything of the movie. I used to love the songs and characters as a young child.

I suppose I was exposed after the 1980 release.

Nice review as per usual, Casey.
