After reading the reviews of sonystyle.com and seeing that it was only 22% recommended, I was reluctant to order from them. However, when I tried to order a Walkman from J&R Music for $20 less, there were so many problems at that website that I decided to risk Sony Style. Luckily, I had a very good experience at Sony Style.
The Website
Sony Style is Sony’s retail web site for electronics. The categories available are digital cameras/camcorders, computers and peripherals, handhelds/PDAs, televisions, home audio/video, portable audio, accessories, and car audio. I used the search function to look for a portable cassette player, but everything except what I was looking for came up in the results. So, instead I drilled own the category links, portable audio > Walkman > Cassette Walkman, and was able to find all of Sony’s offerings that might interest me.
I was honestly surprised to find how cheap portable cassette players have become. The most highly rated Sony cassette player, WM-FX281, on Epinions is less than $30. Buying this player is the alternative to completely redoing the audio system in my husband’s car for $500 or more. Even choosing the most expensive model, WM-FX671, at $149.95, saved me several hundred dollars.
The individual product listings tell me everything I need to know about the product cost and features. There are also links to the specifications, accessories, product FAQ, product warranty and compare model. However, I do notice as I’m looking at the web page that the player was shipped with the Vertical In-the-ear Headphones accessory, rather than the Stereo Headphone listed under features and pictured with the player.
Purchase
Currently, the web site lists my product as Shipping date not available and you cannot add it to your cart, but the listing was ships in 24-48 hours when I purchased on Sunday. The online inventory system seems to be fairly accurate and timely. In the first step of the shopping cart, you select your shipping method (Ground delivery $6.55, Second day delivery $8.05, Overnight delivery $11.25), update quantity and enter e-coupons. When you are ready to proceed to checkout, the next step is log/registration. To register you enter you username, password, name, address, phone number, email address and date of birth. The third step is entering the billing and shipping addresses, payment options (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, Sony Financing) and submitting the order. The final step is receiving the confirmation of your order. I received an immediate email confirming my order and an email when the product shipped.

Shipping & Product
I submitted my order with 2 day shipping requested on Sunday. Monday, I received a notice that it had been shipped. Tuesday, my husband went to the FedEx center after work to pick it up. Online order tracking is available, but the package arrived so quickly that I never used it. My husband is thrilled with the quality of the product.
Bottom Line
Although the search function of the website could still use some improvement, my overall experience with Sony Style was very positive. The product was easy to purchase and arrived on time in excellent condition.
