If I could pick just one place to shop on-line, it would be Pottery Barn. They have great merchandise, excellent service (something we are missing in so many of our shopping experiences), and an easy to navigate website.
Actually, I would be embarrassed to tell you how many times I have shopped at Pottery Barn on-line, but it is more than I can count on one hand. Yes, their merchandise can be expensive but I know that when I purchase something, it will not be returned.
My first experience with this company on-line was while I was living in Montana. Trust me, we had no store, and enjoying the Internet for shopping, I was right at home. We were redoing our bedroom, and I found “just what I wanted”, placed the order easily, and received my merchandise by Federal Express within a short time. Of all of the pieces I ordered that day, only one needed to be returned due to size, and I simply called customer service, and they sent Federal Express back out to pick it up. I received a complete refund, and no hassle. That is the way to do business.
Their site is nicely designed into categories, which consist of:
1. Shop: This is where you will find all of their merchandise by type. For example you can chose between furniture, bathroom, bedding, accessories, or the best part, sale merchandise!
2. Shop Rooms: I think this is a perfect area if you are not sure what you want. Just click on the room you are needing suggestions, and the picture will enlarge and every item that is for sale will be listed, with of course a link to the items.
3. Gift Ideas: This is one that I do not use very much, but if you are looking for a special gift you can search by price, product, purchase a gift certificate, or see their recommendations for a special occasion. They have great photos just like their catalog, so you will not be at a loss for ideas.
4. Gift Registry: This is pretty self explanatory, you can register, look up someone who is already registered, and even make changes to your registry and see what has been purchased.
5. Catalog Quick Shop: If you have a Pottery Barn catalog and want to order on-line then just put in the catalog number and it will take you to your item.
One little secret I have found out is if you are a Pottery Barn lover, like me, keep your old catalogs. I have been able to search for items by number from year old catalogs and found them on sale at the website. If I were to use their regular search program, it will not bring up old items. Just remember, save those catalogs.
Besides all of my new bedding, I have ordered three lamps, a coffee table, and a sofa table, and other than the one piece of bedding that was returned because it was too small, everything has a place in our home.
I may pay a little more, and shipping is high, the range is $4.95 to $21.00 and after a $200 order the charges are a flat 10%. On large items, like the tables I ordered, there was an extra shipping charge of $30. However, I bought them on sale, and I could sit and home and shop from my computer.
Pottery Barn offers a terrific website, the best customer service, and some marvelous products. You cannot go wrong with this company!
