  • User Rating: Excellent
  • Ease of Use:
  • Paper Handling:
Pros:Very good resolution, quick printing, quite affordable, color printing available.
Cons:Not a laser printer, sometimes the software freezes for a while when initialized.
The Bottom Line: This printer is very useful for home and office. It has a good printing, scanning and copying quality. It is also not expensive.

I have been using this printer, scanner and copier all-in one for almost a year and I love it.

The resolution for printing in black is 600 x 600 dpi but the printer has an enhanced color possibility from PhotoRET III, which has 2400 x 1200 dpi using photo paper. The printer prints on wide variety of papers.

The scanning resolution is 600 x 1200 dpi optical and 4800 x 4800 dpi maximum. The maximum scan size is 8.5 x 11.7 in (215.1 x 297 mm). The printer software includes OCR software, which saves re-typing. This software automatically transfers documents into text to all MS Office programs.

The copier has a speed of - black: 11 cpm, Color: 8 cpm. It supports reduction up to 25% and enlargement up to 300%, which is really powerful. The additional powerful copier settings are: creative copying button, mirror, margin shift, quality, paper type, enhancements, lighter/darker.

The setup is non-conventional – I would say a little bit “tricky”. You have to initially install the software without connecting the printer to the port. All the installation steps are explained graphically very well in the guide “map”. The HP printer is compatible with: Win (98, 2000, Me and XP Home or Professional, MAC Os 8.6 or 9.0). It has also USB connectivity for both PC and Mac.

The HP web site provides the following minimum system requirements: CD-ROM drive, Pentium® 200 MHz for Microsoft® Windows, 32 MB RAM; 64 MB RAM required for Windows 2000, 190 MB available hard disk space, plus 50 MB for full color scanning, 640 x 480 SVGA monitor (sound card and internet access) Mac system requirements: Mac® OS 8.6 or 9.0 32 MB RAM, 100 MB available hard disk space, plus 50 MB for full color scanning, SVGA compatible display and at least 800 x 600 resolution.
