I agree 100% with amykhar: Could not have said it better. (Reply to this comment)

I tried Bonzi Buddy and did buy the extra's that went with it. It never did get my email (pop3 account) mail even after I called customer support to help me set the protocol settings and the ISP settings. NOTHING. It failed for whatever reason. They were uncertain. I still don't know why either.
The voice recognition aspect of Bonzi Buddy was time consuming to set up. It would mis-understand many of the words I said.
I paid over $65. for most of the add-ons until I learned my lesson... which is exactly everything that amykahr has stated in her review.

I agree that it's a great idea. Unfortunately, the implementation is flawed.

I tried bonzi buddy today. actually it works quite well, and the animations are good, facial expressions expressive.
The problem is that he sounds more like steven hawking than a gorilla. But its a good idea. he doesn't do anything useful for me, but what if he did? he would be a whole new interface paradigm.

It can also be very hard to get rid of... (Reply to this comment)

...though not as hard as Comet Cursor, the worst of them all.
You probably already know about Ad-Aware, but if not, I give it all ten thumbs up.

Margaret, yikes! I guess I wasn't clear and need to revise the review a bit. Microsoft wrote the agent software that is the basis for Bonzi Buddy, but did not create Bonzi Buddy itself.

Ick! (Reply to this comment)

Sometimes I'm actually GLAD that I'm such a computer doofus - I wouldn't know how to download anything in the first place! There doesn't seem to be an end to Microsoft's graspiness. This sounds like a good one to stay away from.
Good review - thanks!

Thank you. Every once in a while, I think about programming my own version of the thing without the spam. I'm sure my kids would love it.

How true... (Reply to this comment)

I cannot stand Bonzi Buddy, and I hate how he pops up all the time when I connect to the Internet. It is even more annoying when the darn monkey does not shut up.
Your review summed it up very well. Hope other users will find this extremely helpful.
