Age 9 and older? (Reply to this comment)
by christoph_p
I agree with everything you said, only I wouldnīt rate The Simpsons to be suited for age 9 and above. IMHO, this show should be for age 16 or older.
Why didnīt you mention Itchy & Scratchy? They seem to be a satire to Tom & Jerry (or whatever it is called), since it shows a bit more "realism".
Also, I think itīs worth to be pointed out that Matt Groening seems to be a Sci-Fi fan. The Simpsons (as well as Futurama) contain a lot of references to other series and movies. Just think of the episode where Homer was about to became an astronaut. When he talked about The planet of the apes he said almost the same as the hero said in the movie.
(At least in the german translation)
Anyway, great review!

I think that once people are old enough to realize that nothing is what it seems (some never get past this stage) they should be shown the Simpsons.
Amazing review. I feel constricted by the word Very.

I read your review and just kept nodding my head... I used to get into a furor as I had students who tried imitating good ol' Bart. Then after I started watching it a few years ago, I saw what wonderful writing this really is!
Nice review!
