The Bottom Line: When you do the math, Digital Cable is over priced. Digital Satellite is a better deal.

Which one should you choose? What are the differences? The market has changed in the last few years, and picking the right one can be a confusing choice. Fist off, regular cable should not even be considerd unless you can't hook up a satellite where you live. The picture quality is not always good, and the price is rediculously high. I live in an apartment, where I can't install a satelite, and can't afford digital cable, so I pay about 50 dollars a month for about 60 actual stations (Preview channel, Homeshopping Network, and other useless channels excluded). If I could have a satellite I would be paying about 40 dollars a month for over 100 actual stations, and a crystal clear digital picture. If you do the math, basic cable is a basic rip-off. So, what about that Digital Cable? This is much harder to figure out. Both Digital Cable and Digital Satellite offer the clear picture and the interactive menues and the other nice bells and whistles that have revolutionized the art of T.V. watching. Digital Cable offers the "on demand" option, which is like a waterd-down TIVO available for some channels in you digital cable subscription. However, this is still nice because TIVO isn't cheap. Digital Satellite does not have the "on demand" option, which is a draw back. But, Since Digital Satellite has started to offer deals where they hook your house up for free with units and satellites, you've got to look back to your bank account, because satellite is cheaper. You can get all the same channels for 10-30 dollars/month less than Digital Cable. You could use that saved money to get that TIVO you might have always wanted. So, when you add it up, at least in my opinion, Digital Satellite is the way to go for TV veiwing fun. Boiled down they are about the same thing, and satellite cost a good bit less. Even when you get involved with internet options, if you combine DSL with Digital Satellite you will pay less than you would for one of those package deals offered by the cable company. I can find no real reason why Digital Cable should cost more, so I have to say satellite is the way to go.
