| Walkere's Full Review: Hewlett Packard HP Pavilion F50 (15 in.) Flat Pane... |
In the fall, I go to college, so it was time to get a new computer. In the interests of saving space, I decided to get a flat-panel monitor, and I found the HP Pavilion F50 15" viewable... (which, btw, is not refurbished. This was the only listing on epinions.)
I got the monitor home and, as I had nothing better to do, I immediately set it up. Installation can't get any easier than this - it definitely receives 5 stars for that. I took it out of the box, plugged in the power adapter, plugged in the monitor into the back of my computer, and powered it up. A few minutes later, Windows detected the Plug and Play monitor, it automatically detected the drivers on the CD. Moments later, the monitor automatically configured vertical/horizontal positions and color settings, and it was a crystal clear picture.
I generally use a resolution of 1024 x 768, with 16 bit color. Coincidentally, this is the highest setting supported by the monitor. I tested it at lower settings (800 x 600 and 640 x 480), and it quickly adjusted the monitor settings to work perfectly. For regularly computing, these settings are quite sufficient. Unfortunately, if you are big into gaming and want a higher resolution, the monitor stops at 1024 x 768.
I purchased the monitor to accompany an HP system, and after the $150 rebate on the monitor it came to $499.99. For a fully 15" viewable monitor, it's about an average price. The original price was a bit high ($649.99), but it was a good deal with the rebate that I found at Best Buy.
I haven't had any problems as yet with the monitor, but it is covered under a 1-year warranty by the manufacturer. It takes up much less space than a CRT monitor - the entire base is only about 6-7 inches deep. This makes it perfect for anyone trying to conserve desk space. Whether you're in a cramped dorm room or a cramped cubicle, that is generally something to keep in mind.
All things considered, it is a great product. If you can find a cheaper monitor, that may be the way to go, but otherwise the HP Pavilion f50 is perfect for just about all your needs.
