| toldyouso's Full Review: Four Points Sheraton Austin |
This hotel was convenient to The Barr Mansion where we needed to attend a reception. The room was clean overall, cold, (impt. in July) and quiet. We had a queen sized room -which is all they had left two weeks in advance. Our room was not large but was adequate. It had a queen sized bed, an easy chair, minibar, and a large TV with video game controls and cable channels. The writing desk had convenient plugs for computer power and phone lines at desk heighth. The large glass sliding doors behind the heavy black-out curtains - were great because they opened out into the parking lot behind the room and made loading and unloading the car easy. I was happy to find that the room came with an ironing board and iron. The bathroom was of a moderate size and clean. It had a combination shower/bath with good water pressure and came with the usual soaps and shampoo. It had a built in blow-dryer and heater. The towels were a tad small and rough. The room also came with a coffee maker and coffee supplies.
The staff was attentive and friendly. We asked for a roll-away bed ($9.00) for our child to be brought to the room. The bed was wheeled in promptly. Later that night I called to ask for an extra pillow to go with the bed. They came quickly with the pillow and unfortunately I had to ask them to bring a clean blanket for it too. The blanket was muddy and the sheets looked disheveled.Worst of all when I pulled off the blanket, a bottle of someone's lotion was lying under it. It was pretty obvious that the bed had just been slightly straightened and folded up after the previous user. The "clean blanket" delivered was not much better.
On the bright side the huge and free breakfast buffet the next day was a bargain. It had eggs, cereals, french toast, sausage, bacon, biscuits, bagels, croissants, and a toaster with many types of bread. There were three kinds of juice and fruit and cottage cheese. The scrambled eggs were poured from a box - but the homemade salsa was fantastic cover-up! The Sheraton has a nice large pool, a weight room, a hot-tub, a bar and is friendly for kids. A huge group of little -leaguers were staying at the hotel when we were there. I guess the hotel put them all in one area because though we saw them - I never heard them. I guess they took up all the double bed rooms and perhaps had something to do with the hastily made roll-away bed?
