Just because something works fine on your computer does not make it a good product.

All the people complaining about zone alarm, well maybe you should all learn how to use a computer, or at least configure zone alarm properly, it works fine on my comp, and uninstalls as well.
so go configure.

Uninstall woes (Reply to this comment)
by jascott22
I second the comments about Zone Alarm being a good program, but not worth installing due to the extreme difficulty getting it off your computer once it's on. I put it on my wife's XP. When it began blocking her from the internet for legitimate sites, we decided to remove it. The uninstall program with the program does not work, and even following the tech guides on their site has not been successful. I'd frankly rather have hackers getting *in* to her computer than have her not being able to get out to the internet.

No, this is more the equivalent of trading in the car because the engine doesn't run and once you get in the car, it takes help from the fire department and the jaws of life to get you out again. :D

WTF- if you know what that means!!! I hate Zone Alarm. Epinions is not the only place that you will find negative comments about this piece of S>*t. A year ago I used the free version and it served its purpose. Then I uninstalled to upgrade to Pro3. Holyshet!! What a nightmare. Same story you here everywhere about installing and uninstalling this intrusive "Houdini" like firewall. They must know of the problems at ZoneLabs because they have a huge section dedicated to the removal of this firewall. Even after following all the steps in the tutorial there is still something somewhere calling for device drivers at start-up for ZoneAlarm. Win.ini or registry key? I dont know, they dont know, you dont know, my dog doesnt know, only God knows where this request is coming from and I'm not ready to meet Him just yet. Rolling back my system seems to be the only remedy. I also switched to Sygate Pro 5.0. Ahhhhh! Easily configured with many options and its not in your face all the time like ZonePro is. Beware of Zone Alarm.

A few remarks (Reply to this comment)
by dbeierl
It would be nice to know what version you're talking about..."latest" is ephemeral.

I've been using ZA Pro since version one on Win2k and have had no trouble with it except for a cosmetic one that's not even worth describing. The free version on the other hand made the machine unstable (two different machines, problems went away when ZA [free] uninstalled. Paid version has worked very well and is up to 3.1.395 now -- this just updated tonight, so perhaps there are problems with it.

I am also a bit afraid as I read your great review. I currently have Zone Alarm installed on my XP machine without a problem. I sure hope it doesn't goof on me.

If it does, no biggie... I need a fresh install of XP or 2000 anyways. My Search Compainion dissapeared. 0_o I can't search for files in WIndows anymore!

Well... back to dir /s.

I had this same experience! (Reply to this comment)

It was awful, and we had finally had to format our harddrive and start all over again to get anything to run properly!

I ended up getting a hardware firewall, and am so glad I did!

Long ago I got a recommendation to download this from Ptiemann and I had no idea at the time what a firewall was.

Well it was impossible for me to do anything and since it is just me using this Gateway Astro hunk of junk I removed the thing, and it was difficult to do.

I am glad others agree. What a waste that was.

Not yet. I believe I might go with a hardware solution this time.

Gee, I've got ZoneAlarm on my system. I seen a few reviews like yours here, and I feel like it's a bomb ticking, waiting to go off. Have you chosen an alternate firewall?
