The Worst Ever! by mlkazmer | Aug 02 '02 Simply put, this company is devious in their practices, and worse yet, throw a 'we don't have to be ethical' attitude in your face because the law doesn't require that.
I own a computer store and from time to time, have to find a closeout...Return to opinion

You said it perfectly. "Sometimes there is a catch." Nothing says trust from a merchant than hearing those words. Your saying that we have to be careful about what you're buying from Compuvest because "sometimes there's a catch". I'll say it again - make your printers page with two lists on them - one with New items and one with Refurbished items. Then no one has to hunt down "the catch". I shouldn't have to hunt down "catches". If I see an HP840C printer and know what it does and how it operates, I have no need to go looking at descriptions, specs, or whatever, especially when the printer above it (as of todays web site) is listed as refurb. The way it looks there is that the 952C is refurbished (plainly marked) and the 840C is not. There's not any directions to go look for a "catch", just the ability to go look at the description or add it to the cart. Again, I know what an 840C is and can do, so I just added it to the cart. Had I known what business practices Compuvest used, I most certainly would have looked for a "catch", but since I was a first time customer I guess I'm victimized by not knowing this "catch" rule that I have to be so aware of when dealing with Compuvest. Silly, reckless me.
I will guarantee you one thing. If you continue with your stance of buyer beware I will personally make it my crusade to make sure that as many people are aware of your "sometimes there's a catch" attitude as I can, OR you can take a little advice of someone who's been in business for 12 years and make a minor modification to your web site and NEVER have to worry about this problem again. You have lost my business forever. How much more are you willing to lose?

You know im not sure how many Different Kinds of Printers CompuVest Sells a day. But by looking here and other places for ratings on CompuVest, I have never seen a complaint where customer did not know whether they were buying NEW, OEM or REFURBISHED. We people see the item, I automatically go into the descrirption to see what it is and check if it fits what i need. I just dont go and click on every random item. I know if the price is lower then everyone else's there has to be some catch, so i check it and make sure why is it so. Please be a smart shopper like me and read all the descriptions clearly and know what you are getting. I had a great shopping experience with CompuVest and still keep on doing it. They do offer cheap prices but sometime there is a catch, so YOU always check the descriptions and what includes. And if im not sure, I always contact them either via email or their toll free number and they always answer my questions promptly and business like.

If I'm look at new cars, I don't expect to be delivered a used one. If a dealer advertises in the paper that I have 10 cars and 2 of them on the list they notate that they are used vehicles, the average consumer will think the other 8 are new, plain and simple. All I ask of your company, and yes, we all know you are with Compuvest, is that you advertise everything the same way. Don't list one item as refurbished and another one not, but then take the stance of saying customers have to investigate further to find the true quality of this product.
There are a couple of similar complaints here in
Epinions, obviously I am not the only one with this problem. Why have you refused to correct the problem and continue with issues already brought to your attention? A simple web page fix solves this issue. One table of new printers and one table of refurbished printers. Take the initiative and prove to the public that Compuest isn't trying to deceive people by making a simple web page change. I can even do it for you if the project is too demanding. Why set yourself up for any doubt in the eyes of your customers? Web pages written the way you have them, and I will quote a Compuvest employee, are 'reckless'. Take all doubt out of anyone's mind and list all refurbished printers under a refurbished table and OEM products listed likewise, etc. You folks have too many complaints over issues that up front disclaimers and valuable tables listing merchandise by their new or refurb categories would completely eliminate. The question remains, does Compuvest even want to eliminate these problems? If they do, then it's time to show the general public they do. If customer service was ever a concern, then it's time to put up or shut up.

As far as im concerned, seems like CompuVest did everything to try to help you. And when they told you have to check the description of the product that is a a fact. You just dont go to a car dealership and buy a car by looking at it !!
you research it and make sure its the best quality that you are buying and that it does not have a Damaged Title. So, I believe same thing happened here, you did not look at the whole description and got yourself in this big mess because of it. Its common sense to look at description of any item to make sure you know all the details. No one is dumb enough just to buy by looking at it, in my opinion you should have done more research before you bought this item from this awesome Company. Its like a car, a car that has an Damaged title costs LESS, a computer product which is used or Refurbished costs less, its common sense.
