Cons: Wireless only to three feet, text alignment, no graphics.
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a "No frills" easy device to use, get it. If you want more features buy PDA's.

| paperlessclass's Full Review: AlphaSmart 3000 |
I have Alphasmart 3000 IR's and they work well with my classroom (http://www.paperlessclassroom.com) The units are exceptionally durable and the battery life is incredible. There is a get-it utility that allows me to transfer text to the keyboard as well. This is a true computer companion and not a computer as it has minimal features. This works well in my classroom as there are not a lot of distractions (like games and other applications) to the user. As with any electronic device, students are motivated at first with their use. One problem can be that since there are only a few lines (4) viewable many students will feel they they have written more than they actually have. When transferring the text to the printer or as we do, MS Word, the text almost always has to be aligned. Student's space the text as per the small screen and it is tough for them to use spatial relations to understand how it will look when printed. There are so many ways to integrate this companion in the classroom. Use your imagination and run with it.
