The Bottom Line: Definitely recommended. It's well made, and includes a lot of accessories for the money.
Wanting a place to put my electric scooters and overflow cargo I selected the Thule playpen 840 cargo basket. I already had Thule load bars for a small boat and knew they were well made. What really impressed me about the 840 was the goodies it came with. Normally, all the rack stuff is ala carte, but not here. You get:
The basket itself
Two additional load bars
A set of 8 locks - a very expensive throw in!
A fairing
In addition, the basket itself has two load stubs on each side that can be used to mount additional racks for bikes, etc. I chose to purchase the 18" extension, and when put together it makes my Mazda Tribute look like a Range Rover.
My roof rack would have accommodated the basket without the extension, but to make it work with the longer form factor I had to put load bars front and rear with optional feet. I feel like it's sturdier this way anyway. It comes with four spacers to accommodate a variety of rack and bar shapes. The mounting process took some experimenting to get it right, but it should fit a variety of rigs.
I bought it at a local retailer, GI Joes, that puts Thule on sale for 20% off a couple of times a year.
