3 MONTH UPDATE! (Reply to this comment)

WOW! What a nice computer. Not a single problem with the computer at all. Hard to believe, but I haven't even had this computer lock up or freeze on me!
In a similar Dell 8100 series with P4 1.7GHz, 256MEG RDRAM, GeForce 3 Ti-200, etc running Windows ME, I get lock ups and screen freezes frequently, up to a few a week. I know most of this is due to the operating system upgrade to Windows XP in the newer Dell, but still there is not ONE problem to even dwell on...

[In my best Homer Simpson imitation] DOH!
That makes sense about the RDRAM and RAMBUS memory. Although RDRAM has a 16 bit pipeline and SDRAM has like a 64 bit pipeline, enthusiasts tend to lean towards the RDRAM because of its VERY FAST clock speeds like 800MHz or now 1066MHz as compared to the much slower clock speeds of SDRAM at 100MHz or 133MHz. I have read that this all translates to the fact that RDRAM is usually about twice as fast as SDRAM...
The problem is that RAMBUS and RDRAM are very expensive when compared to SDRAM and RAMBUS manufacturers depend on high end users to pay up for the extra speed. It is great now but may fall into the realm of being a technology fad as faster or comparable, less expensive RAM comes along.
P.S. Thanks for the compliment. I tend to write only when compelled, and this computer is compelling.

this is one of the best reviews I've seen for the Dell Dimension 8200.
One note... RDRAM stands for RAMBUS memory.
