I think I'll skip subscribing to this one.
How can you be so literate and factual, yet so funny to read?
Great write up.

Very interesting review. A new bookmark for the computer.
In front of me now is a copy of THE KINGDOM, Arabia and the House of Saud, by Robert Lacey. I´ve had it for several years, but always picked up other books instead. No more putting it off. The history behind these guys is sure to make for great reading.
Thanks for the info.
Welcome to nowhere.

"...but it is useless for anything short of lining cabinets..."
Try the bottom of the bird-cage instead. Even a hamster shouldn't have to live in it.
Another excellent expose - thanks!

Scathing (Reply to this comment)

It's a sad commentary that as I read and absorbed this fascinating review, I found myself thinking that you've put yourself at some risk by criticising this would-be bit of journalistic dreck.
Bravo, sir.

It's sickening (the paper, not the review) (Reply to this comment)

A few months ago, I watched an online lecture that posed a question about which many Americans wondered after September 11th-- why do they hate us? The lecture emphasized the most esoteric and intellectual reasons, but it never mentioned the racist, vituperative propaganda that Arabs read in their newspapers every day. That would seem to be a more immediate (and fixable) problem to address than centuries of stalled Arab development in science and philosophy.
I've made authentic hamantaschen many times. I can vouch that the only gentile ingredient is I Can't Believe It's Not Butter.
Excellent review.

Sir, (Reply to this comment)

you do have a marvelous way with words and I find your writings to be every bit as entertaining and informative as those of P.J. O'Rourke.
It is a great injustice that he is paid handsomely for his efforts while yours languish in this wee simulacrum of real life and earn you pennies.

let me point out, once again... (Reply to this comment)

I do NOT live in Cynthia McKinney's district. I am in John Lewis's district, and I never thought I'd be proud of *that* little distinction, but I am. (Otherwise, I would have the duty of running against her in the general election, and I'd rather kiss a slobbering moose, or eat sushi.)
For anyone who wants to experience Arab News without your systems provider or Tom Ridge thinking you're a proto-terrorist, may I recommend the "Best of the Web" feature from the WSJ? The invaluable James Taranto -- a recent Arab News target himself -- provides a daily digest of the most slanted and awe-inspiringly stupid things said in that and other rags worldwide.

What I like about this review is that you seem to know that a certain erroneous column on one day wasn't just a mistake.
You are (or should be) the king of News! If there are any other papers or mags you would like to review, just let Redlass and me know. We'd be happy to add them for you!

Sorry. It was bound to be either an Irish song or a Martha and the Vandellas reference ('Nowhere to Run To').
It has improved. That's why I held off on walking.
Good to see you up and around, Doc.

I've just finished reading an old commentary you had written about Epinions.com... your last words of advice were that the would-be shopper/writer run from Epinions. I was afraid you taken heed to your own scathing words of the site, and quickly checked your member profile.
Glad you're still around. I'm regretting the hiatus that has passed when I hadn't sought out your reviews. That stops here.
-Daniel
P.S. Just out of curiousity, how would you rate the site now? I'd say it's improved. More work to be done, but it's definitely better now.
