Pros:Great flexability, digital picture is crisp, ergonomics are great.
Cons:Not cheap, serial output for stills is slow.
The Bottom Line: A powerful, flexable, and cost effective way to get into digital video without losing your 8mm collection or your wallet.

We bought our camera a year ago, and use it often. We we originally looking for a basic 8mm camera, but noticed the Digital8 cameras. I wanted the FireWire output, the digital still capability, and the whole gamut of features and quality that one expects from a Sony.

We paid about $1300(Canadian) for it, so it was not an investment we were willing to make lightly.

What we got was a powerful movie making device that enabled us to do things un-thought-of even 5 years ago.

I work a Ford Motor Company, and I recently used it to digitally capture video from an old VCR tape, upload it to my FireWire equipped PC so that I could produce a training video.

I have also used the built in "Blue-Screen" mode to create humorous videos of the kids in strange places.

The Memory Stick holds either 40 high quality photos, or 60 average quality photos. But don't expect multi-megapixel quality photos from this camera in still mode. The cameras video CCD is just not made for the task.
The photos are good for webpages, and printing out though, both of which we do a lot.

The serial interface for uploading the pictures is very slow compared to the USB link featured in it's successor, the TRV330. I've been tempted to buy a larger Memory Stick, but the wait would just be longer.

This can be relieved by buying one of the previously mentioned adapters. Some motherboards, like those from Asus, have support for Memory Stick readers built in.

All in all, skip past the other brands and head straight to the Sony section. You will not regret the decision.
