Where did this come from?

Pros:Cheap, Reliable, Compatable, Good Drivers, FAST
Cons:With the new v1200 drivers, none.
The Bottom Line: Get it for a really fast, cheap performance boost.

I purchased the VisionTek GeForce 2 MX with a kit from Abit with their KT7-RAID and T-Bird 850Mhz, and at first I wasn't to sure about it. I mean, I didn't trust a 'no name' card too much.

Then it came. I was eager to install it, which was simple. Win98 read it at a 'default', then I installed the drivers. The interfaces were simple enough. Click install, and with the exception of a question asking me if I wanted to install some demos, it was time to restart. It came back up and I began playing HalfLife. I activated the console and check ed the frame rate. It was 120 FPS! Remarkable! And that was no fluke. Even at 1024x768 it had over 100FPS. Nice card.

Well, after trying to play Final Fantisy VII on my computer with it, well, FFVII wouldn't read it at all. 'NO VIDEO ACCELERATION PRESENT' is what it seemed to say. That was a easy fix though. Travel to 'www.videocarddrivers.com' and download the newest drivers for the GF II MX (actually the drivers are for the GF III, but they work better on the GFII) and install them. Some new features are in order, like 'overclocking' which, with this particular video card, do not do, and well, more games now see it as a hardware accelerator now. FFVII never looked better. The new drivers work best with DirectX 8 though, so get that first!
