Most people probably don't realize it, but Sonystyle.com is the official company website for purchasing Sony products and accessories. When I recently went to the Sony.com site to purchase the item I needed, I was redirected here. (Sony.com is more of an product information site than anything.)
Sonystyle.com is not to be confused with an independent Sony dealer, this is the official company product site.
So what does my cat have to do with my purchase from Sonystyle.com?
Let's start out with this: we have two cordless phones in our house, they are both Sony products. Now my cat Charlie, is almost a year old. He has this nasty (and dangerous!) habit of trying to chew through thin wires in the house. (Prior to this incident, his favorite wire was phone line cords - I'd be dialed in when suddenly the connection would end and I'd see my little fluffball sitting on two separate pieces of phone cord with a pleased look on his face that I always interpret to be saying, "Ha ha Mom, now you have to pay attention to me.")
Then two weeks ago, he graduated onto the cord for our Nokia cell phone chargers. (Once I replace that, I guess I'll have to review Nokia.com!) I should have realized it would come -- but the next thing he was into was the phone adaptor/plug in our kitchen. I didn't even see it coming, but came home one day to a non-working phone and our phone plug in two pieces.
Sony adapters not compatible
My husband and I spent the next several weeks going to various stores (Radio Shack, Target, Sears Hardware) trying to find a power adapter that would be compatible with our phone. None of the "universal AC adaptors" worked. Apparently Sony doesn't *want* you to find one that would work, so you have to order a new one from them. (Universal isn't so universal after all.)
Not the easiest site to navigate
As I said earlier, I went onto the Sony.com site for this and I was redirected to Sonystyle.com. At first, I had trouble finding what I was looking for. I clicked on "accessories," and couldn't find it. I went to "Home Audio/Video" and couldn't find it (didn't think it was there but couldn't figure out how else to find it.) Eventually, I utilized their search tool and it came up (it was in fact under "accessories," but I had overlooked it initially).
Overall, it took me a few minutes total to find it. As an impatient web surfer, I thought it took more time than it should have - but in retrospect it was two minutes or less, which is definitely acceptable.
Other site issues
As far as site performance, I thought the speed was quick and efficient - both surfing the site and processing my order. I received a confirmation email minutes after I made my purchase, complete with a tracking number and other detailed information. I was surprised to read some of my fellow epinionators reviews of Sonystyle.com. Many mentioned poor site performance.
Sony must have updated their site since some of these reviews, because I found the speed of the site to be efficient and sharp. (From what I read, it sounds like it was so awful - Sony must have known they had to fix things!)
Also, I like the design of the site - I think the look is sharp and it appears to be easy to navigate.
Product availability and price
The price is anything but discounted. Being on the Sony site, you are paying retail Sony prices. For a standard Sony product, I would recommend finding another place to purchase -- bigger electronics stores (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.) have most major Sony products and they often go on sale. "Sale" is not really a word you find on this site.
I can't really find reason to buy a product at retail price here unless it is something specific that isn't carried elsewhere - as it was in my case.
Shipping
Lastly, the item was shipped and arrived on-time.
