Dell Dimension 4300 Series Review
I have had a computer since Windows 3.1 came out and I must say that this is the worst computer I have owned, putting the Packard Bell aside that is.
To start off with, when I got the computer, the motherboard was bad. They replaced the motherboard after determining that was the problem, it took around 30 minutes to schedule in home service. In home service was there the next day, very nice people they use. Then, about a week after the motherboard went, the video card broke and i would see constant shadows and “smears” all over the screen. They replaced the video card, ok everything was working at this point. Then, the front USB ports went out so they replaced this little board that fits into the fron of the case which has the usb ports and headphone jack on it. Then after that, the mouse port and keyboard port was fried, so they replaced the motherboard once again. They said this time they were determined to find the cause of the problem. So the tech looked and looked and called me back the next day and told me not to turn the computer back on, they were coming to replace the power supply. Ok, now that I have a new power supply I have not had anymore problems. What confuses me, is why it took them so long to figure this out.
So, now that everything is working right, the computer seems to be running fine except after about 5 hours of use the computer locks up, and this is on a fresh install of Windows XP. The computer has been running quieter so suspect the heatsink fan has went out.
The CD ROM drive and CDRW and not very smooth when ejecting, they tend to jerk around when coming out. And now, where I have had to do so much work on the computer. The case is coming apart at the “seams” where it closes because of the “great” tool less case, yeah right.
I would not buy another Dell ever again, even te service techs and manager have been rude to and have refused to give me a refurbished system as a replacement for this one.
Be weary, I warn you. Dell DID have a great service record, but I have read that they’re reliability is in a “downward spiral.”
