As a web developer, I have had the opportunity to interact with at least a dozen internet hosts and service providers, and it hasn't always been a pleasure. While most have been competent, they are often slow to respond to technical questions or to go the extra distance.
What first got me looking at Akashik was when another internet host started to underperform, and wasn't able to tell me why my pages were loading so slowly. Then, they botched a backup and tried to charge me for it anyway. Needless to say, I started to look around for another provider and found Akashik.
I am happy to report that my experience with Akashik.net has been very different. I've found the email support to be very friendly and helpful and they have never left me hanging. If you have a question about setting up an account, I encourage you to investigate Akashik yourself. Drop them an email and see what kind of attention you get.
With your account you get an easy-to-use control panel interface that will tell you everything you need to know, and let you set up your own subdomains, email accounts, or manage the interface with mySQL. There are even a couple of statistics packages loaded, and you can get a chat or forum running on your site by just clicking a link to install it. There are some database backup and administrative tools loaded, and they support advanced tools like Php 4 and ImageMagick.
I have found Akashik's pricing to be very competitive. It's about half what I pay for similar service at one of the "big names," where I get very little support at all. The only concern I have had has been that Akashik is not very widely known yet. I am hoping by writing this review it will help get the word out.
