Good review (Reply to this comment)
by jenzahara
I am voting it "Very Helpful", but I have just one problem with it. Why did you have to describe the saleswoman as "beautiful" - why does that matter? I realize you may have wanted to compliment her, but in the process you've reduced her to nothing more than window dressing. Would you have described a man as a "handsome salesman"?
I only want to point out that judging people by their looks is sexist, racist, or any other "ist" that may apply. Thank you.

Guys, however gauche this review may be (Reply to this comment)

By now, it has reached some level of success in that it causes some stirring, uproar. I am convinced it's the MINI effect itself. Everything is upside down with it. Demand goes to the roof; odd offers to salespeople etc...
Mary Wells Lawrence said in "A Big Life in Advertising": The idea of advertising is to leave you just a little bit nervous that if you don't try a product or service, maybe you are missing something that is better...
MINI is playing some tricks on all of us!
(Hey, I am not trying to influence you to read my review on the subject too (just smiling here)

Great way to express what's going on right here, Liz!
It's such a coup de force to compose a review that will influence somebody to make a purchase. Obviously, as Lead and advisors, we want to be on our best foot always. I take it as if you guys want to watch out for me. Because in the end, you want every review of mine to reap the maximum positive feedback possible.
Hey guys, teach me one or two things so I may reach my ultimate optimum state.
I imagine we have all embarked on this journey of perfection through service to virtual others.
Let's have a big laugh and move on, dudes (now)!

Daniel (Vara)
I got your points...I assume the consumer will not only read my reviews especially if it's not the first one on the product. (Maybe wrong assumptions) He/she will read yours and others'. That user/consumer may still not be satisfied with all that information.
I hate repetitions and doing things just like anybody else does. The spice of this site (Epinions.com) is its pluralism of views, angles, approaches, sometimes dumb, funny, stupid and educated. I believe when you put just a little bit of yourself into your review, you get repeat business from readers. People like dirt unfortunately. The bare facts about products and services can be so windy and dry. They want to see how somebody else interacts with the products, how that person brags about them etc....
You know how it goes when two guys stand in the parking lot or garage and start bragging about engine performance and God knows what else.
I truly think you are making a good point, but I think that everyone relates to a product in so many different ways. "a review of mine is a capsule of time, emotions, beauty that can only be captured once!". I may fall short as your rating and comments suggest in this case. But that's how I interacted with this MINI....
You know what I mean because you too are a good writer on this site.
Thanks for your comments. Let's keep opening new windows of understanding for our consumers here.

Hi Charles, without this sounding like an 'Epinions Advisors and CL's in Autos' attack on you, I agree with Daniel. I do commend you as well with taking advice and criticism with your head up.. I look foreword to reading more of your auto reviews!

Hi Charles,
I'm glad you are open to discussing this... most people just get very upset very quickly!
I can appreciate what you're getting at, but I'm afraid you're missing my point. If I was in the market to buy the car (ergo, I'm the consumer) then I'd want to read about someone's impressions of the car, with lots of detail. That's what this site is about: I always tell people that the site is spelled like "OPINIONS, but with an 'E'"... opinions are what this site is built on, in other words. This review has no details of your drive or any depth into your own impressions on it. All you say is this:
"After my test-drive with a colleague, I can see why so many people want this car."
That's it. As a consumer, that would be useless to me. I'd be scratching my head wondering why you wrote such a long review merely listing facts without answering why you liked it, what you didn't like, things like that. ... And this isn't "small stuff", like you said. Far from it. These are the basic questions that Epinions.com recommends you answer when you write your reviews (in fact, they list them for you). This review just doesn't answer any of them. Someone could just as easily sit down with a brochure/fact sheet and write a review like this. See what I mean?

The shopper can find the same information on any other sites. All that matters are my angle and way of doing things. To tell you the truth, it's fun. I don't have to sweat the small stuff.
I write assuming that my readers are true shoppers who use their senses. All the other details can be found on any websites.
Making a review appealing is interesting to me. I write for shoppers. Advisors who are shoppers may get something out of them too. If not, it's always fine to resort to their own subjectivity.
I hope you don't take this personally. After all, we should not yell at each other.
Let's keep shopping and giving feedback on products we experience one way or the other!

My rating (Reply to this comment)

Hi Charles,
I left a comment on your last automotive review and am afraid I must repeat myself: this review isn't much more than just some eye-catching formatting and decent length. There is very little information given about the car itself. The vast majority of what you say is either some background fluff or information that could readily be found at the manufacturer's website. There is no real mention of your experience with the car, and this review lacks any impressions on your part.
This review is all style and very little, if any, substance. I would encourage readers to read more carefully before dishing out generous ratings.
Charles, I hope you realize I'm only trying to help and not be difficult. If you update your review and let me know, I'll re-rate accordingly and delete this comment. If you need any help or would like to discuss this, just drop me a line.
