Well done Review of NCCC (Reply to this comment)
by colonialpara
Everything you say here is right on. Hofstra University and some of the other private colleges also make a point of block transfer of credits for Nassau grads.
Some say Nassau is the best community college in NY and they'd probably be right.
Great review.

Thanks guys!
Yes you can watch movies, and yes they do have distance learning. You can check out the website for info on that, too.

This is a really good review!
My only degree is an AAS in Electrical Technology from Jamestown (NY) Community College and I agree with your assessment of community college faculties. Most of the good teachers I had were at JCC.
I also took a course at Northern Virginia Community College (us locals call it NoVA) and the teacher was excellent there, too.
The kicker is that I was once on the faculty of a four-year college, the State University of NY at Fredonia. There were plenty of PhDs and the people were nice... but my experience is that the quality of teaching is better at a community college.
Thanks for reviewing this topic!

I think you captured the spirit of Nassau very well. You all have the pertinent technical info, and lots of good info about campus life that students will never know till they're a second semester freshman. I liked this review.

My degree (Reply to this comment)
by AliventiAsylum
is from Nassau!
Of course it's in computer programming and it's 10 years old so it's worth jack. Course, the nice thing is I can hike back over there any time I want...
Only this time I want to be a paramedic. Been watching too many Emergency! reruns.
Great review

I concur!
I love the talent of this category!
Superb work!
I went to two community colleges before transferring to a private university!
Great time in any student's life! I would recommend spending two semesters in a community college before transferring...
Keep sharing these review with us!

Yeah. One thing I forgot to mention (so I'll do it now) is that there really aren't any lecture size classes. Sometimes with a Biology Lecture, or Math class you'll get a lecture hall, but they're still small. Maybe 40 people instead of 100.
Almost every class I've been in has been 30 tops in a regular room, which makes for a much better learning environment.

Great info (Reply to this comment)

I took a couple of community college classes and was impressed with them. Some of the professors seemed more interactive than those at the "big" university who also had research responsibilities. Anyway, I think you make a great case for your community college in particular.

I majored in astronomy at SUNY Stony Brook, and several of the people I knew in the program had transferred in for the junior years from Nassau CC. You're right-- calculus is calculus. I think taking lower level classes at a junior college is a great way to save money without sacrificing quality teaching.
Excellent review.

Now I thought you were an Army girl or something like that - not sure where I got that idea. Was this before your decision to go into the military? Just curious if you were on ROTC or not. (long story)
I'm a "nerd"/homecoming queen - I used to think of myself more as a nerd but now I think of myself as a "perdy" (pretty + nerdy) girl! LOL!

Seriously, it kept coming up on a search I was looking for a web cam in the Bahamas! Thanks for enlightening me. At 40 yrs. old, I finally finished a 4 yr. BA in Political Science. I chose a traditional degree, despite my better judgement, and have been looking for a job since May 2001!! So sorry I didn't go the community college route and got an Assoc. in web development --- right now I'd be happily clicking my way to wealth and success!!
