Re: A Question (Reply to this comment)

Hello!
When I first signed up with Cingular (almost 3 years ago), I signed up and bought my first phone directly through Cingular. There was no problem with billing when I bought my new phone at Staples. Basically you just purchase the phone at Staples - even though they say "with in-store activation," it just means that you agree to activate it through Cingular's activation line. Staples gives you a little Cingular flyer with the Cingular phone number to call.
Theoretically easy, but Cingular kept messing up my contract that they sent me to sign, but in the end, no problems - my billing was seamless (kept going through my direct withdrawl from my same checking account), my phone number was not altered, and I even complained enough to Cingular to squirrel free Wireless Web and an old promotional monthly package that's better than current ones (since they kept typing up the wrong name, terms, activation date, etc. on the contracts for me to sign through the mail - unfortunately you can't do it through a Cingular store, since the phone activation line is a separate department).
Since you activate directly through Cingular via their activation line, you don't need to fill out any rebate forms - they just automatically get mailed to you in about a month. My checks came in from Cingular no problem. You need to wait till you get your first bill from Cingular though, to send Staples a copy to prove you actually signed up. I sent that in last month, and got notification that my two checks from them are currently on their way to me.
So - it takes a while to get your money back, but well worth it, since we got checks totalling over $500!
Good luck!

A Question (Reply to this comment)

If you could answer this form me. Did you buy your previous phone directly thru cingular or staples? If you did buy it directly thru cingular, when you bought your new v60t thru staples, did it change anything with your billing?
I have Cingular and would love to see if they come up with that deal again thru staples.
Thanks

Awesome!! Just got back from my local Staples and they did indeed have the special in the store. It took some convincing for the manager to run the transaction (and a call-in verification to his regional office), but in the end, the V60T is mine with the Staples rebate and I'm about to phone in for the Cingular activation and rebate.
Great timing! I owe you big! Thanks again!

Hello - I looked in this weekend's paper and didn't see it advertised either. I just happened to be in the store (in Massachusetts - Bellingham) for another reason, and saw it there. Since I had been shopping around to upgrade, I couldn't resist the impulse purchase.
The salesperson said it was an in-store sale for $29.99 through August. Their selling price was $289.99 (after an instant 40.00 off in-store discount). In addition, Staples also had an (up to) $140 mail-in rebate on select Cingular phones (this got the full $140), and gave me a special Cingular activation phone number to call, along with a Cingular flyer that advertises a $120 Cingular mail-in rebate for extending my agreement for 2 years. This brings the total to the advertised $29.99. I got the additional savings since I used a Staples internet coupon I got through email which allowed me $50 off of a purchase of $500 (this applied since both me and my husband were upgrading, and the total price was higher than $500 before my rebates), bringing the total to only $10 for BOTH!
Since my old contract ran out, I didn't have to pay any new fees since I was in essence signing a new contract. You may be in a different boat, and may need to pay a fee to cancel your current contract, but retain your phone number under a new one. Although it is Cingular activating the phone, it is through a special rebate customer service line - 866-254-3275; you can't get the deal in a Cingular store, and they don't even know about it. Once they send you your new contract and you get the first statement, you send a copy in with your rebates (one to Staples and the other to Cingular) and there you go! Kind of a process, but worth the savings!
You may want to just call your local Staples and see if they offer the Staples mail-in rebate for this phone. If they don't know of the Cingular mail-in rebate part, it doesn't make a difference, since all you need is the phone number above. Cingular makes sure you get the rebate from their end. There's not even a form for them - you just sign your new agreement, and the rebate comes in the mail.
The only part that sucks is the waiting for the first statement before you can reap the benefits of the rebate (that don't come in for another couple months). Good luck! I hope this helps!

I checked Staples' website and their weekly flyer and I found nothing mentioning a sale, rebate, or special price on this phone. I'm in the same boat you were -- Cingular customer and can't find it anywhere for less than $250. Help!!!
