Get it cheap and enjoy

Pros:Fast Card
Cons:Newer cheaper cards are faster
The Bottom Line: Good when I got it, now it is old (expensive) news. But still faster than the cheapies.
I recently changed from a 3D Prophet DDR to a Creative Labs Annihilator 2 MX and I can't tell the difference. Of course the price was a BIG difference. I got the MX card for $140 and I paid almost $300 for the 3D Prophet DDR about a year ago. The frame rates and image quality is almost identical. Unless you can get this card really cheap (under $70) there really isn't a reason to have the power hungry heater in your case. My new MX card doesn't even have a heat sink (I think it is made on a much newer manufacturing process that allows it to run much cooler). When I first got the Prophet card though, it was SMOKIN. I was amazed at the resolution (1024x768) and the full detail that I could run games in. The difference from a TNT and the GeForce is amazing! Sadly I think this series of card has been eclipsed by the newer cheaper ones . . ..
UPDATE
I got a Geforce2MX card as a potential replacement and I was really happy with the results. Then I got the new 3D benchmark 3DMark2001 and did some extensive testing. My trusty GeForce256 DDR is slightly faster than the GeForce2 MX. I think this is because the GeForce2 MX is very memory bandwidth limited. I am currently running all my games (Tribes 2, Undying) using my trusty GeForce256DDR. One thing, make sure you are using the newest Nvidia "Detonator" drivers. They make a WORLD of difference. I am using the beta version 12 and not having any problems.
