| menomonee1's Full Review: Evenflo Warm Mist Humidifier |
I knew it was time to buy a humidifier when everyone in the household was waking up with sore throats, skin was itching because it was so dry, and a favorite wooden chair developed a crack in it due to lack of moisture in the wood.
I found just what I was looking for at the local Treasury Drugs. It was the Evenflo Warm Mist Humidifier.
Lets start with my criteria for purchasing a new humidifier.
First it had to put out a warm mist, not cold. The reason for this was rather simple. I have worked in the medical field for many years and know that cold air causes tissue to constrict. So when patients are placed on oxygen for an extended time, not only do they add moisture to the oxygen to keep the tissue moist, but they add a heating element to warm it up.
Second criteria was that it had to be of sturdy construction. Since we all know that hot air rises, I like to keep my humidifier on the floor. I have used cheaper humidifiers in the past that if they were bumped, the water would come out the top. I needed one that when bumped into on the floor, would still operate normally.
Last criteria was that it had to be easy to clean. Since I always tend to fill mine up just before bed time, I wanted one that could be cleaned out within a minute.
The Evenflo Warm Mist Humidifier met all the criteria that I was looking for at a decent price. Now on to the features.
A 2.2 gallon humidifier tank. They claim the one one tank will last for 24 hours, but I find that it usually will last for about 10 hours.
Moisture outlet with a built in medicine cup. This is for medication that is added to a humidifier like Mentholatums. It is easy to fill and just as easy to clean out.
A night light. This is a great benefit if you leave yours on the floor like I do. It helps to keep you from tripping over it in the night.
A refill light. Lets you know when you need to add more water. I thought this to be a wasted feature though since the water tank is clear and you can see the water level.
An automatic shut off of the heating element when it runs out of water.
The benefits of using a humidifier are more then just to the people living in your home. When the weather is very dry, the air will pull the moisture from any source that it can including your prized wooden furniture. Having a very dry house will cause your wooden furniture to crack. A humidifier adds that needed moisture to keep that from happening.
So not only will a humidifier help to keep your family healthy, it also protects the investment you have made in your home and furnishings.
